Grin Just got some exceptional bargains at the local Oxfam shop:
Books:
- Orchestration (Piston)
- Tonal Harmony in Concept and Practice (Forte)
- Digital Audio Signal Processing - An Anthology
- European Music in the Twentieth Century (Ed. Hartog)
- Music and the European Mind (Dunwell) (and haven't I just? Wink )
Records:
- J.S.Bach Flute Sonatas (Hünteler/Koopman)
- Delius Hassan and North Country Sketches (RPO/Beecham)
- Retrospective of Sir Thomas Beecham The Post War Years

All for a tenner! This sort of thing makes me happy!

Well done, Stuart. What a haul !  My local charity shops are absolute rubbish as far as classical CDs or records are concerned. Cry

I know what you mean, Morticia - what you need is to live in an area where very few other people are interested in classical music! (And then you need some of them to start replacing their collections with CDs or, dare I say it, pass on to the great record shop in the sky  Sad )

Having said that, I'll probably have to wait 6 months now for anything decent to turn up!

Miserable git that I am, I don't spend enough time in here. Today is a day of rejoicing and polysyllabic exclamations of happiness because late last night I finally found the charger to the family's mobile phone which had been missing for more than a month. We now have three days to buy more airtime so that we don't lose the service (again).

Now, if I could just find my driving license I will be a very happy bunny. All I can remember is I was packing in case I had to leave in haste, and I put it somewhere safe, just in case...

HOORAY !  My violas arrived today  ( the plants, not the instrument Roll Eyes )  Time to get my hands mucky  Grin

Fantastic!

Our summer-flowers are all withering and dying out in the "box" (as we call our flower box). Will have to remove it from public view within the next week I think.

Kitty, never, ever put anything in a `safe` place. It`s fatal !  Grin

It`s another gorgeous September day dahn Sarf. I have put in some serious tidying up in the front garden (ouch. Stiff back) , put bulbs into pots and potted up some rather lovely Winter pansies. Next up is some merciless pruning for a buddleia and a California Lilac that is obviously going for world domination !

Ivy goes for world domination in my garden, and I think it's winning.

That`s just prompted me to look up the botanical name for the lilac. It`s called Ceanothos. It`s a lovely colour but, boy, do they grow ! And grow and ....

I just got word from my new employer that my work permit has been officially approved by the Home Office!  I'm thrilled and relieved.  I now have to finalize the details w/ the freight shipping company and get myself a plane ticket.

This is easily the most bizarre thing I've ever gone through (moving house just across town is stress enough, but an international move is absolutely, astonishingly stressful), but I'm incredibly excited.

Welcome to GB, Aaron! I wish I could say I'll be gone by the time you get here, but I don't think so, just yet ...

Maybe see you in Hudder's Field in a few weeks.

Congratulations Aaron.
Having only ever moved house once (and I only had to deal with things on the receiving end - I wasn't exactly moving out of anywhere, just receiving furniture) within the UK and found it very stressful, I can only imagine what it's going to be like, so best wishes and good luck for all of that.

Thanks, all!   Smiley

At the moment, I couldn't care less about the stresses of moving.  The stress of waiting for the work permit was far, far worse.  I can deal w/ stressful logistics -- what I hated was the uncertainty and the lingering doubt that it would all work out.

Now moving forward full steam ...
