Huzzah! I rustled up some oomph and 'phoned BT about the hub charge. After some time on hold they came back and it said was their mistake. Many apologies, blah blah. I nearly had to sit down, I was so shocked Now if they can just get the flippin' BB service working....

One successful marshalling of oomph leads to another, Mort, so gird those loins and proceed to the next requirement!

Hurrah, tomorrow I shall be off to Kitzbuehel for a week - maybe with day trips to Salzburg or Innsbruck if the current rain doesn't turn back to snow...

I'm really happy. I treated myself to a new, faster computer today with Windows Vista. I know lots of you on here don't like Windows, but I find it ok. Really proud of myself for disconnecting the old one and setting the new one up all on my own. I've got everything back on it now that I had before and all my back-up cds have been downloaded. It's taken most of the day, with just a break to go to school for the Mother's Day presentation. That was great too! All the children sang and said a few words each. Then we were all given cards and a bunch of daffodils. I know I'm not strictly speaking "Mum", but he doesn't seem to care and we're very happy.

I am one of those who are cynical about 'yummy mummies' who treat their kids as fashion accessories/\sacred cows, but your day sounds conversely lovely, the richer for making a`parental climate from whatever the starting point was.

My family have never really done Mother's Day, or come to think of it, other days like Valentine's Day. Or Father's Day. Now, I think the card compamies dreamnt of this one, Grandmother's Day, etc etc..............

Card companies may well have invented Father's Day, Grandmother's Day and that American institution Mother's Day in the summer.
However it is an old English custom to keep the Fourth Sunday of Lent as Mothering Sunday. The only reason that I have heard given is that the readings in church for that day included a passage from St Paul particularly opaque even for him referring to Jerusalem above, which is the mother of us all.

I gave in about Mothering Sunday a while ago (but I will not call it Mother's Day). The children wouldn't have liked not being able to join in. However, I basically object to a day when it's compulsory to be Nice to someone, same as I object to compulsory romance on Valentine's Day. Should be nice all the time! It's the lack of spontaneity that gets to me.
That said, I'm having an enjoyable weekend because elder son decided to visit me.

My boiler is back on ! Ah! Heating! Ooooh! Hot water! The Gas chap fitted a new fan yesterday but he had to leave us disconnected when he found a second fault on the pilot-light. He came in to work for an hour this morning especially to get things back on ( a couple of his mates phoned in sick) And my 3 star cover means it hasn't cost an extra penny!! When I said how grateful I was he suggested I put a good word for him at Head Office as "That sort of thing goes down very well." which of course I shall. So well done British Gas and very well done Stephen Pearce the gas fitter- a nice man, a very, very nice man.
