A new species of Irish mammal has been discovered by a student who was sorting through the contents of barn owls' stomachs before baking them in the oven. Shocked

The greater white toothed shrew - crocidura russula - is only the third new mammal to be found on the island of Ireland in almost 60 years. It is usually found in Africa, France and Germany.

I heard about this today; it was on the news yesterday here.  Fantastically exciting, innit? Smiley

Please ... tell me why!!!!!!! and what were they looking for when they found it? and why do they hold it like that? and what were they baking in the oven?? and why??

Thanks  Grin Grin

At every one of these [classical] concerts in England you will find rows of weary people who are there, not because they really like classical music, but because they think they ought to like it. (Shaw, Don Juan in Hell)

I'm happy because the indoor workmen have finished late this afternoon.  All that is left for me to do now is clear up the inch of white powder which covers every piece of furniture, picture, mirror, surface - all over the house.  Sad I tried to keep the doors closed but it's managed to creep everywhere, even upstairs.   I'm not to clean the floors today, I have my orders,  because the grout "has to settle", but I'm going to wait 24 hours before tackling the big spring clean anyway, to allow the majority of the dust to settle.....hopefully.  Roll Eyes

Outdoors they're coming along fine.  The weather held today so they managed to do some outside painting and they've started on my fencing.

I went to Parent/Teacher consultation this afternoon and he's doing very well.  It was lovely looking through all his books.   Cheesy

Happy, happy day.  Smiley

Happy me ! About 3 months ago I had a puppy run under my car wheels, yell his head off and run off....I never knew what happened afterwards.

Today I saw the owner and the dog, which is FINE !!!!!!! She said it was missing for several hours, but was OK when she found it.

I'm so pleased !  Cheesy  Cheesy  Cheesy
So am I! Smiley What a lucky pup!

You don't suffer from hayfever do you Milly? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATCHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Oh dear, you'll just have to wait another 24 hours! Grin

Glad to hear he's working hard - wish more of my little darlings would! Actually, I was quite pleased with most of them today - though I didn't have much time for work in the morning since Thursday is Swimming lesson day. That's much more stressful than teaching! But quite a happy day.  Smiley

No hayfever in Millyland, nor asthma, or allergy to dust thank goodness!  We'd all be wearing masks if that were the case I expect.  I was rather surprised that the plasterer and tiler didn't wear masks.  They must have tons of the stuff in their lungs.  They both smoked like chimneys too.  Shocked

finished work yesterday.  spent today sitting about relaxing, practicing some piano (still haven't gotten around to properly learning any parts off...but am able to avert my gaze down to my fingers for several seconds at a time Smiley  ).

Macbook is back.  And good.

eating curry now.  mmm.

And listened to a big bunch of carulli pno+guitar transcriptions of Rossini.  Some did make a favourable impression indeed.  And the rest were all rather romptastic.

Happy also to hear that things are going well for you TIN, and Jan, and the puppy.  And Milly, and the kid.

Oh, I have an anecdote to tell as well.  But I might leave it off for a few minutes.

AND I watched Ugly Betty, which always makes a favourable impression on me when I happen upon it, and yet I've not got around to actually watching it in any structured way yet.

Congratulations, kitty.

Inky - did you know the star of Ugly Betty has insured her smile at Lloyds of London for possibly $1m?  Marlene Dietrich insured her legs there, but you may not have heard of her.

This is a bit gushy and me-me-me, but I'm Happy because I have a crazy week of work coming up, involving performing in four concerts in four days, plus rehearsals, plus teaching. But it's GOOD crazy! As mentioned on the live concert thread, three of the concerts are with my wacko band, 'notes inegales' and we're rehearsing the whole of this weekend. It's shot-in-the-arm time! And it's about that balance thing - I don't perform enough, need to be in touch with that bit of me more and do less of the other stuff in my life.

And I am moderately happy (modified rapture - operatic reference that my chums Tony, Ruth and reiner will recogize at once) because on my profile at present my average daily postings now appear as 3.  Nothing to some of you, of course, but I am quietly pleased.
