Nice work trj. (Looking forward to reading it some time.) If present trends continue, by the year 2126 everyone at r3ok except me will have a doctorate.

Congratulations trj, brilliant news.  Sounds like you're having a busy year! Smiley

Richard - you don't have to worry about me either, unless you see any pork sailing through the sky.  Grin

A particularly slimy, though superficially jolly, vicar I once knew, once described by another priest as "not the brightest biscuit in the barrel", had a partner working in a new university in fund-raising or senior admin or something like that.  He wangled the university into awarding his other half an honoury doctorate.

So well done trj, on working your fingers to the bone: Ruby, Mort, Richard and I are happy to cheer on the sidelines.

I can't add anything to what has already been said but suffice to say I'm so very pleased for you and your family.  Well done!  Cheesy

I thought that too, George! But didn't want to put him off - though it's a bit late now! Cheesy

Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.

I'm afraid it reminds me of Berg's Lulu
 Or  Youman's No! No! Nanette.
Two works that have nothing in common but the decade or the hairstyle.

Surgically separated from its second half and dragged over here, which is where it belongs, from the Grumpy Old Rant Room:

Brendel's last London recital tonight. It was _______.
So, what am I doing in here?

I did wonder whether you might be there, Eru. Glad to hear you were (in the Festival Hall that is, not the GORR). Any other R3OKers? As Eru says it was just _______.  I can't think of anything sensible to say about it tonight. Maybe tomorrow when I've come down to earth a bit.

By coincidence (or possibly not?) when I was making my way to the Festival Hall I do believe I caught a glimpse of His Eminence Il Grande Inquisitor being carried in full pomp by four acolytes along the South Bank but apparently heading in the opposite direction. My working hypothesis is 'Black Watch' at the Barbican Theatre but His Eminence's destination is of course for him to disclose only if he wishes.

Eru, you are just the chap to identify authoritatively the three encores that Brendel gave. I'm pretty sure I know what 1 and 3 were, and could have an uneducated stab at the composer of 2, but I'm far to nervous of ridicule to put my cards on the table here.
