Absolutely shattered after a week's residential in the New Forest with my class. Mainly very wet, but we carried on regardless, kayaking, raft building, climbing and abseiling through it all, having a tremendous time. Pleased to report that the Inquisition performed very well on the archery range! Great food and great children, who were mostly a delight, despite the challenging weather conditions. They'll sleep well this weekend, as will I...night all!!

Yes, and I saw a wonderful performance of Wizard Of Oz this week at the school my wife works at, some of her little darlings had parts.
There's always one or two soloists who stand out. The girl who sang/played Scarecrow, and the chubby lad who played the Lion. I had tears in my eyes seeing how well those two did their parts, and how the teachers had recreated the Munchkins, especially the kids doing the Tough Guys bit. Dorothy and The Wicked Witch were fab too, and I loved the way the witch disappeared when the water went over her, really well done, just like in the film

How on earth did they manage that?

How on earth did they manage that? They managed it brilliantly! The main actions were on a biggish raised movable foot-high platform, and there were some think velvet curtains drawn along the back of it (and there was empty space behind the curtains). And about a foot in front of the curtains there was school bench which was always there (scarecrow kept hopping on it during her scenes). The witch was very tall for a 10 year-old which made her an excellent witch, with green skin and Mort-like dress and pointy hat. At the critical scene the witch was standing on that bench. It was so well done I'm guessing a little but I think I saw how it was done. When the water went over her she started bending, then her feet went onto the floor of the platform, then on to her knees (she's behind the bench now) then I think she started to get her legs behind the curtains into that empty space which dropped a foot and she continued going down and down and deftly left the pointy hat on the bench. All in about 3 seconds!

And here is yours truly, minus the cardinal red, on the archery range! And yes, the children were safely sheltered behind me! Am 'tentatively' happy at the moment having put in an offer on a new house on Saturday which has been accepted. Early days and all that, but it's rather exciting!!

Best of luck with that, IGI. That kind of thing can be mega-stressful . . .

Happy? More exceedingly relieved... Our young bunny was lost this evening, out in gardens where foxes frequently visit, but an eagle-eyed neighbour, 4 doors up the road spotted him in his front garden and scooped him up before a dog or a fox could harm him. The arrogant person who repeatedly ignored our warnings never to let Dudley run free (we have a very large overgrown garden without secure fencing) is now very contrite and apologetic for givng us all the awful heartache as we searched desperately, knowing the certain fate of Dudley had he not been found this evening. Dudley really belongs to Little R who is off on an activity holiday with school - equally awful was the prospect of having to tell her that Dudley was a tasty fox snack in her absence...

I dont know wether you people outn there remember me saying about having a couple of my arrangements for brass band being played by the world famous Black Dyke Band? Well, they had a session with them. The Professional Conductor of the band, Nick Childs, replied to me tody, saying that the band had a session, so thats good enough for me!! My goodness, a top brass band playing something that I've arranged!
I await the next step, when they will include them in one of their concerts but not just yet. I expect with bands like that, they have a certain amount organised well in advance.........
.....watch this space!!

good news, brassbandmaestro. Tell us when they will perform your arrangements. This is really great achievement when the top band plays your arrangements.
