A friend's baby was almost 12lb! But she is quite tall. I'm 5'1" and my first baby was 9lb 7! But it was a C-section - not because he was huge but just as well really! (For those who are interested in this sort of thing it was an emergency as the placenta was falling apart and I wasn't even in labour yet - but he was overdue a couple of days. That C-section saved both our lives so I'm very grateful for it!)

Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.

Tim, Mrs Tim and Miriam
All the best and congratulations. I am so pleased.
This is a bit late because I spent yesterday evening hanging around a low dive in Bloomsbury with disreputable crowd, who were very tolerant of me rolling up in pin-striped suit.

I was really surprised to see in 'The Weather Thread', that PW had taken pics of the band I play in the village fete today. My band is called Patcham Silver. Really made my day that did, PW!! Thank you!!

just quickly checking in - thanks all again for all the best wishes and congrats; when Liz is a bit more awake I'm going to show her all of these posts, she will be very touched to have so much love from strangers! Miri doing well - a touch of jaundice but nothing this sunny summer weather won't fix (feeding going well it seems, which I know can be a major headache)

when Liz is a bit more awake I'm going to show her all of these posts Liz clearly had a harder time of it than you trj Best wishes to you all! I used to joke about my wife's first labour, she was 'at it through the night for 15 hours' she would tell folks, but I'd add that she was asleep most of that time with injections, while I stayed awake the whole 15 hours !

Wheeee: two-and-a-bit weeks, and I've at least made an effort to do some sort of physically strenuous activity each day.

Both mine were quite big - 8lbs 4 and 8lbs 2 respectively. Quick and easy, no forceps or artificial aid of any kind. I was really lucky! I can remember the midwife telling me at the first birth that it is always "the tiny little women who give birth the easiest and to the biggest babies". I was 9lb 10oz, I think. My mum's 5'3" so you may be right, Milly! Welcome to the world, Miriam. Hungry yet? Hope your mum and dad are getting some sleep here and there.

The city is a process which always veers away from the form envisaged and desired, ... whose revenge upon its architects and planners undoes every dream of mastery. It is [also] one of the sites where Dasein is assigned the impossible task of putting right what can never be put right. - Rob Lapsley
