Mary Chambers,
Was it here on this thread we talked about Raymonda?
I think this dance would represent Hungarian dance better.

Thank you for those clips, t-p. I think I've seen Zakharova in something, or am I imagining that? I certainly haven't seen her in Raymonda.

They always wanted taller  lady for Raymonda. Plisetskay was a good Raymonda. She had big step and elegance in this part.
Plisetskay may still be dancing. May be I am wrong.
I saw Schedrin on Russian TV talking about his new opera Lolita.
A woman who plays leading role is 40 years old, very tiny and flexible. She is good Lolita.

The music for the opera is very complex. I think they had a premier somewhere in  Norway singing it in their language. There were some copy rights problems. They could not get permission to sing Lolita in English. They now sing Lolita in Russian. I don't know if they ever be allowed to sing Lolita in English. This is how I understood the story, but I was going in and out of the room at that time and might have missed something.
Schedrin is very charming.

He wrote several ballets for Plisetskay. In my time I knew Humpback. The music is simple enough, in Russian style. And of course he re-orchestrated Carmen for her.

I used to like Humpback a lot.

Since she is now over 80, t-p, I would be surprised if she is still dancing.

In my time I knew Humpback.

I know this as The Little Humpbacked Horse. I've never seen it, but I've read about it.

I saw her on TV and she doesn't look old. Now it might be old program.

But Schedrin was charming. He was preparing some sort of a concert. I wish Reiner was here. He may know. I don't think he goes on this thread.

I don't know what else Schedrin wrote. He wrote a few things since we left.

His third concerto for orchestra, Old Russian Circus Music, was played here quite a bit a few years ago - a very approachable piece.

I'd guess from the picture on that cover that that was a Russian film of the very late fifties or early sixties, t-p. (They had a particular colour-caste that's instantly recognisable.)

Yes, it looks like an old Russian movie.
It looked completely different staged by Bolshoi. There was such bright colours. I remember a lot of yellow and something beautiful and bright on her head.

There is a man in kaftan behind her.

This picture is not good, doesn't represent the happy mood. That looks almost melancholic.

I remember his Prelude and Fugues. Students used to play them so much.

He had fast Toccata style piece that people used to play a lot. I need Reiner because I forgot. I had to throw my scores when we moved because it was impossible to take them accross the ocean.
I used to like Schedrin a lot.
His big piano scores are very complex and technically demanding.

I think his later style has changed, but I am not sure.
There was a big celebration of his music. It must been some aniversary.
He was talking about how he composes and about people who support him abroad. Because I am not familiar it went above my head.
Plisetskay was with him.
They have a trust or something for musicians. It was a while back.

And indeed reviews on the Amazon American site confirm that it was filmed in 1961, t-p.

Pfffh! it's a bit dusty in this room, or is it just me? I think I can allow myself a little happiness on account of my BT HomeHub having arrived this morning (too early of course, why do they DO that, sorry, wrong room) and somehow I seem to have managed to get it all set up and working in about three minutes, and to prove it here I am. I must have done something wrong...
