Have a good time there, t-i-n.

My belated congratulations to IGI. The move will be over soon.  Kiss

No, I don't know what it is.
I have been to Lisbon once, attending some Publich choice conference there.
They had a trip to the most Western point of European continent organized for us.
I even have an official diploma that I was there.

Yesterday on BBC1 was the final of Last Choir Standing competition.  Three Choirs competing, one from London and two from Wales (North and South)  The Choir from London was knocked out and ...........

The Choir from Cardiff won!!!  Cheesy Cheesy  Muchio rejoicing in the Valleys!

They will be singing on R3 "The Choir" programme.  Not sure of the date

I thought I'd have a look. I stood it for about 3 minutes, if that. Nothing to do with choirs really - just ridiculous prancing about and singing pop music with a beat. Of course, perhaps I missed the Bach and Britten - Hymn to St Cecilia perhaps? Mass in B Minor?  Grin Grin Grin

Be good to have something for choirs that sing serious music, instead of endless pot pourii's of upbeat music. A similar discussion is being talked on www.themouthpiece.com for brass bands.

I totally agree Mary and BBM. It's prime time BBC1 so has to be populist.  Huh  I haven't watched the previous programmes but I watched this because two Welsh Choirs were finalists.  The winning choir did sing the lovely hymn Cwm Rhondda.

Having googled I see a couple of weeks ago the viewing figures were 5m and I see The Telegraph reports there has been an upsurge of interest in people joining choral groups so perhaps, even though it was a bit tacky, it may have inspired some to sing?

I've enjoyed the whole series.  I liked the gospel choir but obviously you can't beat the Welsh!  Grin

They may get a shock when they discover they have to sight read and sing chromatic scales at the audition!

Mary, The article was referring to amateur choral groups, not trying to sing the St. John Passion which is a different kettle of fish and where you would need to sight read.

Just checked some of the Welsh Male Voice Choirs and sight reading is not a requirement, just a decent voice and enthusiasm.  I see from the programme's website there were a lot of Church Gospel Choirs and I don't expect they would be expected to be able to sight read.

I think what the programme showed (and reading the reviews about it) is that singing in a group is great fun.  However, the winning Choir does seem to be made up of musicians!

I am useless at singing. I sang in Welsh choir. For Christmas we sang somehting by Bach and in the Spring by Haydn.
At first I was with sopranos. Then I decided that it is too high for me and went to altos.

I liked my experience in the choir, but I don't want to sing again.

To play in the orchestra is another matter.

bbm,
What happened with your concert? We had a lovely day here. We went for a walk and after I went for a walk by myself. It is still nice and bright.

I am waiting for the chance to talk to the horn player. He is a very nice man.
Somehow I knew that it will turn out to be a good day.

I don't know the difference between bass and tuba. Is there any difference?
