I have just received the best news that I have heard all year. Our ghastly hospice manager who has made the lives of so many staff miserable, who has harried and bullied people out of their jobs over the last four years, IS LEAVING!!! I don't know why and, at this moment, I don't care. She's leaving and that is a wonderful thing. There'll be dancing in the wards when this is officially announced.

probably due to the hate mail and death threats ?

lol

I love it when the right people leave. The atmosphere gets slightly electric when the news breaks doesn't it, as everyone tries to contain their excitement in as tactful a way as possible.  Smiley

One of our managers is going soon as well, and I'm delighted as he's been almost entirely useless.  One of those people whose opinion consists mainly of what he was most recently told was a good idea.  Annoying in a fairly senior manager.

Gosh, I can remember the excitment when the Chair of the Management Committee and selected members of same came round to each office in our Housing Association in turn to say she had just sacked the stupid bastard she had appointed as Director a few years before.

Some tenant came in with a query at the time and I was at the desk dealing with that, so I missed the announcement, but I remember her serious demeanour and our suppressed excitement.

But thinking of that office there was the time Sancho phones up early one morning to say Margaret Thatcher had resigned as Prime Minister.  I tell everyone and we all gather round the TV in the office to watch the news, feeling a bit confused.  We opened the bottle of champagne that was in the office fridge and drank, and someone mutters "Ding, dong, the witch is dead" but the feeling was not so much relief or happiness but a funny sort of numbed confusion.  O the manager was out at the time and I suppose I was the senior person there.

Good news, Mort.

Perhaps these people are being made redundant, perhaps it is the credit crunch expansion ?

Someone at the job centre told me her and 17 others had been laid off, and all had been doing conveyancing, and some recruitment consultant in the pub told me they had laid off 20 people.

Nobody ever gets made redundant at our place.  If they need to reduce headcount it tends to be done by natural wastage and offering early retirement.  Or by reducing the pay increases so much that they start becoming pay cuts.

We have an Estate Agency side (which I do not get involved with)  We have had a cottage on at £350,000.  It has today been repossessed and the Mortgage Company have instructed another Agent.  It is now on the market for £169,950.

I'm sensing there's a personal interest there.  Sad

No, nor working in IT for a prominent bank, like someone very close to me.  Sad  Tough times.

All I can say guys is that govt. employment may pay fairly pitifully, but at least you tend to be safe.
