I'm trying to defrost my very old (35 years) and probably very ecologically unsound fridge - you should see the size of the lump of ice surrounding the freezer compartment Shocked it's going to take all night for it to melt. Trouble is if I ditch the fridge while it's still working, and buy a new one, that's not very ecologically sound either, is it Huh

Once you've removed some nice big chunks of ice, run yourself a not-too-hot bath and you can play icebergs. Cheesy
Or call it global-warming? Undecided

Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.

Miserable ones? The Grumpy Old Rant Room had 6032 posts (before I posted this) whereas the Happy Room only had 4528.

This has made me grumpy - the Grumpy Old Rant Room is no longer the top topic.

...and hasn't been for some time, John, though you can console yourself that it's been viewed over 100,000 times!!  Shocked

My grumpy rant concerns a 'double booking' for tomorrow evening. A friend had invited me to her choir's concert and I marked it down in the diary (whilst still on the phone to her) for Sunday. A busy weekend, methought, with the second in the Philharmonia's Vaughan Williams symphony cycle at the RFH on Saturday. Yesterday, she called to invite me round for a quick bite to eat with the family before the concert. Great, I said, I'll see you Sunday....only to be told, 'no, it's on Saturday; turn up Sunday and you'll have missed it!' So, no RVW for me then...

And another obvious one, bbm: please don't be tempted to overdo the sun: just take it very gently for the first few days at least....

Thanks for the tip re the sun Ron Dough. I not one for sun worshipping.

Although I haven't seen the GORR post numbers be quite as close to the NGPA post numbers for some time.

Tommo

PS this post makes it closer...

It's a while since we had a Virgin Media grump on here, but .....

Not long ago, said Virgin Media supplied me with a replacement set-top box.  So here I was this evening, MD machine at the ready to capture the Minotaur, when I discovered that the new box ... has no audio line out socketAngry Angry

So - given that I live in a place where the writ of FM (let alone DAB) does not run - I am reduced to listening through BBC iplayer, dropouts and all.

Infuriating - since what I've heard so far sounds pretty wonderful.

At every one of these [classical] concerts in England you will find rows of weary people who are there, not because they really like classical music, but because they think they ought to like it. (Shaw, Don Juan in Hell)

Glad you are at least enjoying what you can hear pw.

I have R3 Minotaur on because of all the recommendations here, but honest to God I really can't stand the singing, well are they actually singing, I'll say no more  Smiley

My wife tells me a string quartet will be featured on the finals of ITV's Britain's Got Talent show, which has just started, but the musicians will be tall blonde women with stainless steel electric string instruments and they might perform something by Karl Jenkins (she's guessing the last bit)

What should I listen to, the choices are poles apart and I'm sitting snuggly on my equator of light music  Cheesy

Richard/pw, I'll just add  Wink it would help if I had a libretto in front of me and to see what's going on.

The absence of those two things doesn't diminish my enjoyment of, say, Marriage of Figaro  Smiley

Just heard a soprano lad on ITV, impressed. Again I don't know what he was singing but he was impressive.
