I'm going to buy some mutton sometime soon. My girlfriend's going to Zambia in October and there's no chance that she's going to find enough vegetarian food to survive, so she's asked me to cook some meat well for her so that she can be prepared... Anyone got any good mutton recipes?

I know an easy one that I usually do. I put garlic inside (you have to make it with knife). Then put mustard all over it and cook.
The other way I know is make a stew like from beef, but with lots of hearbs (for lamb). I just buy herbs for lamb. I am not very sophisticated, I know.

Would life be easier for peeps if I only admit to a yen for fish in the future? Or tofu?

At this rate we're going to have to have two threads... Can we agree to disagree on this one? Some of us enjoy eating sheep. Some of us think it's wrong. I'm all in favour of Mort eating lamb if she wants to eat lamb, and doubly in support of Anna's suggestion re: buying British (if you can buy British vegetables you should as well - eat seasonally, you know it makes sense!) I knocked up macaroni cheese tonight. Hoping for something more exciting tomorrow (might defrost those two fillets of witch sole from last week, might see what's new chez fishmonger).

We don't eat much beef. In fact we are half vegeterians now. Ones in a while I will want it, but Mr TP does not eat it at all. If we invite people then the want to eat meat.
Some times one needs strength. I am told by doctors that women should eat meat. But then I don't really know and I don't think dictirs jbiw too. If a person has to built up strength they might opt for beef. However, the biggest animals on earth are vegeterians.

I've been told by different people that a) the main reason that doctors say that people should eat meat is that some vegetarians are not very careful about eating balanced diets and b) that meat contains essential chemistry that you cannot get without taking pills and stuff. I have to say that I side with a). Knowing my girlfriend, if she didn't eat as much quorn as she does, I think she'd find it hard to balance her diet properly (she doesn't really like pulses for a start - what's wrong with her? She doesn't like meat or pulses! Maybe she just doesn't like protein...)

Women need iron and protein. Young women today don't eat enough of that. I think they are trying to be too slim. But then again what do I know. When I will feel better and have more time I will make this dish. It is made with egg plants (american word).

I can not find it now. I found it as a vegeterian dish. I think there is no meat in it. Mousaka is a good dish to make, I like it. Young women today are too fat sometimes too. There are either too fat or too slip. But I am tired now and not right. I know I am not right as I am typing it.

That`s just reminded me of a purple, rather peculiar looking fruit that goes by the unlovely name of pigface. Apparently it tastes wonderful. Here`s a snap..... Anyone ever eaten it?
