Its offically been declared that August has been the wettest ever on record!! With all this rainwe are having this year and last, surely it has come to the point of there being two Emerald Isles in the ritish Isles!!
Suppose that's why people haven't been posting about that many barbecues here, bbm. Unless you meant to put your post on the Weather thread ...?

I've decided. I'm honorary Welsh, in addition to my bloodline claims. Seaweed? Suddenly love it! Bara Breath? Bread of my mother's heart, see. Reverend James? Finest bitter this side of Dudley.
I depart tomorrow.

- I've got to think of something exciting to do with 2 peppers, half a cucumber and some carrots Sounds like we're back on the 1980s farce trail there, Andy. Stuff the peppers with rice or bulghar or cous cous, carrots, pine nuts (Andy you seem to have a constant supply of pine nuts!), plus some spices of your choice, chilli, garlic, onion, some chopped tomatoes from your greenhouse, mix in some coriander (ditto from greenhouse) top with cheese, (pref. goat's) and a good grinding of black pepper, cook and serve until bubbling with cucumber raita. Tomorrow eat the other pepper cold with balsamic dressing on mixed fragrant leaves, chopped spring onion and some cherry tomatoes. Sorted. I do have lots of pine nuts, I get them from Tesco who do quite big bags fairly cheaply. Tonight I did use bulgar wheat in fact, but to make a salad: extra virgin/balsamic/soy/chilli dressing with chopped carrots/red pepper/cucumber/home-grown toms. Shopping tomorrow.

Oh do they? That's worth knowing. Thanks Andy. I went hunting for pine nuts about six months ago since they seemed to figure so regularly in hh's recipes. The only ones I could find (can't remember where now) seemed absurdly expensive for what they were so I rather gave up. Maybe I'll give them another go. Hmmm. It's not going to go down too well with the Comrades in my cell of the "St Albans Stop Tesco Group" though, is it. It may have to be done discreetly.

George - could you not order some over the internet? There must be some nutty suppliers out there. It probably works out quite cheap if you order in bulk - how long would it take you to get through 50 kilos?

I'm hungry. A toasted muffin may be in order (not hors d'oeuvres).

I was just about to sign off for the night and here you come bouncing in with your "I'm hungry". Now I'M hungry as well. (wanders off to kitchen) As I thought. Nothing there which doesn't require more preparation than I can be asked with. That's it then. Good night everyone. Go on, harmonyharmony, enjoy your toasted muffin why don't you.

Bara Breath?
Pssst! Martle, it's Brith! (Means spotty) And it's lovely - my Welsh aunty makes it. Must ask her for the recipe. Even better, must visit her again - haven't been down there for years. I was (almost) burning blackcurrant jam this evening. A friend gave me a cupful of freshly picked blackcurrants. So I made a tiny bowlful of jam! But it kept reducing too much before it passed the wrinkle test so it kept sticking to the bottom of the pan... It's rather tart as I didn't want to add too much sugar but blackcurrants do need lots don't they! I think it'll be delicious on toast for breakfast. Now I'm hungry!

But I wouldn't eat jam at this time of night. Gives me a sugar rush and then I'm wide awake, and I become a very annoying bedtime companion when I'm high on sugar. Not that that's an issue at the moment of course. I've just made packed lunch for tomorrow and I'm just about to toast my muffin and then scoff it in bed. And I will enjoy it. Oh yes. With some cheddar. NOMNOMNOMNOM.

I did not think people are awake at this time of night, but I could not even imagine they can eat or even cook.

Good idea, Ron. I can usually pass unnoticed on the mean streets of Watford. I think I might start off gently with a 30 kilo bag, MabelJane, to see whether I like them. The expensive ones I had before didn't even seem to taste of very much to me. Pine nuts and I somehow got off to a bad start altogether. Clust'ring filberts on the other hand <swoon thud>.

Try toasting them GG. Get a dry pan quite hot then chuck your nuts in. Toss them about a bit until they start to smell fragrant. They should also turn a nice golden brown colour (if they burn a little then that's not the end of the world). It brings out the flavour rather effectively.
