They're awful glutinous gunge - but you will have improved it by adding something - anything - to it.

Crammed full of E-numbers and with a metallic taste, IIRC, Mills. Belongs on the obesity thread, along with the junk food and sugary drinks.

It could be terrible, it could be rather nice. Still it will have used up the jar.

And then you can wash the jar and recycle it, knowing that you've done your bit for the World. If not your digestive system ... Undecided

I was going to say that it was ok but I really do see what you mean about the metallic aftertaste...

Ce soir, a couple of mates are coming over and it will be a selection of very fine and Nommish goods from the now-infamous Taj. I could of course attempt to make some of these myself, like Milly, but I feeling lazy. So, beautiful aubergine pakoras, a variety of freshly-baked samosas, top-drawer tabouleh, houmous, tandoori chicken (halal), an exotic salad of some kind and Taj's superb flatbread made with garlic and topped with cheese.

Yabbadabbanom.  Cool

A simple risotto tonight with goat's cheese, lamb stock, and grilled courgette and pepper. Sort of understated but eminently tasty NOM.

The other half of yesterday's mashed potato with 'erbs in for me, spiced up with some Rimsky-Korsakov.

Member Garnett! That simply will not do. Where's the protein? Where are your vitamins, young man? And there's FAR too much salt and sugar in that Rimsky.

Marty, Marty, Marty x 3 Aubergine pakoras

I think we are all jealous of you (and your mates) whilst we are all having cold mashed pots with some herbs chucked in and thinking that a bit of Rimsky will lift the tone and elevate Friday night into something special.  But no doubt we will slouch on the sofa in a diffident  mood and watch Jonathan Ross in the slough of despond.

I found on Amazon an out-of-print book called Food of Love, favourite recipes of musicians who appeared at the Bath Festival, and sold in aid of it in 1971, ed. Adrian Ball. It's quite entertaining. Some of the recipes are sophisticated, some simple, but they are good usable recipes - except those from Richard Rodney Bennett, who contributes a menu from his collection of "the most unappetising recipes I can find....they are absolutely genuine". It starts with sea-urchin croquettes, which retain some of the spines and are rolled in sugar. The contribution from Britten-and-Pears appears simple, Sole Red House between Miss Hudson's Soup and dark treacle jelly, but might be difficult to reproduce authentically, since it begins "Go down to the beach first thing in the morning and buy your soles. The fishermen will clean them for you on the beach".

The contributors are also asked for their choice of music with the meal. I assumed they would all choose "None", and it did appear that way at a quick glance , but the introduction says that they were equally divided between music and no music, though I get the impression many of them were reluctantly choosing music, only because they were asked to. Hugues Cuenod says "Stop the music if the food is really good, or the food if the music is better!". Richard Rodney Bennett chooses, among others, Florence Foster Jenkins.

I'm having a couple of lamb chops for dinner tonight, slapped on the griddle and sizzled until crunchy on the outside while remaining slightly pink on the inside. I'll be having the rest of the potato '  FEEL L KE CH CKEN TON GHT', and some steamed spinach and carrots.

A ragu sauce puttering, due to be transformed into a pasta bake.  Simple but effective.  Comfort food in these rainy times.

And, it has stopped raining, the flood is slowly receding.

Littlest Jones is going to a birthday party in a few minutes, so medium-sized Jones and myself are going to have a Chinese takeaway I think.  Or we might even sit in..... Huh

Glad to hear the floods are beginning to recede, Antheil.

Oops. To stay roughly on topic:

Wonderful lamb. If it's that good, you don't really need that much more than simple vegetables. NOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOM.
