I used to have a book that was totally about how to transform culinary failures into something else. I wonder what I did with it?

My 12 year old loves shelling peas - he usually eats half of them raw./quote]

I love raw peas! In fact when I buy them they never make it as far as the saucepan, I just scoff them. Which reminds me, does anyone here eat raw potato? I have loved raw potato ever since I was a child but I get some pretty odd looks from people when I mention it. My aunt loved it too. Maybe it`s in the genes Cheesy

Oh rats, I`ve done the wrong box thing again Angry Never mind, I`m sure you will all understand ......

Here you are Mort, catch one of these and pop it after the full stop after the first 'raw'.

Mort,

Really not an advisable thing to do at all: it might even explain some of your ailments!

Love the last line from the article Ron links to:

Conservation of potatoes:

To maintain their alimentary properties in good state they should be stored under certain conditions. The main conditions to keep in mind when conserving the potatoes are the following ones:

- Not to pile them too much to avoid them to germinate. The heaps should never overcome a height of 50 cm.

- To maintain them inside a fresh temperature .

- To provide them a good ventilation ,

- To avoid to store them in a totally dark place, a fact which would make them germinate, neither they should be placed in full light. The best thing is to provide them a certain degree of dimness.

- Those that are in not well state should be removed to avoid them to ruin the rest.

That site is a wonderful source:

Tomato is considered to be a good aphrodisiac since it has been proved that eating fresh tomatoes increases the sexual desire.

It remains scorchingly hot here (hasn't been much below +30 for the last couple of weeks) so the perfect supper is...

... watermelon!  It's "the season" right now, there are stands set-up on street-corners manned by Uzbeks and Azeris,  all trading throughout the night.  There is no skill in preparing watermelon, of course - the skill is in choosing your melon, and haggling with the seller.

Buy your melon several hours before, or ideally the day before, so you can whack it in the fridge prior to eating.  Delicious!

Do you ever make a hole in one end (of the watermelon, not you) and pour vodka in, Reiner? Wink

I've tried it like that, but for myself it's a miracle of organisation just to even get one in the fridge for a while Wink
