If you look back at the previous page, Stanley, you'll find that Mort only came in fourth....

Stanley Stewart,
I think this cat doesn't want to celebrate his birthday.

It is amazing how they always find out.
Mikhail Baryshnikov (Bolshoi ballet dancer) was born on 27th of January too.

We are happy to celebrate your birthday, it is a special day.

Many happy returns from me too.

Well, as it happens, yes.  But as a loyal fan, the date was etched on my heart anyway.....  (No, not really.)

Aw, shucks, many thanks to you all.   Kiss  Never, ever, have I been known to upstage myself, yet I assumed that a passing reference to a birthday yesterday, would go unnoticed at the end of one of my rambles.

The 27th of January is even more significant for me as I am privileged to share Mozart's birthday.   Incidentally - I have a bad memory for names - can anyone prompt me on the name of a remarkable teacher  Else Mayer.....who used to give masterclasses on Mozart at the Purcell Room.  George?   You are usually a mine of information.    She literally breathed love, admiration and dedication to every mention of WOLFGANG    AMADEUS   MOZART.

t.p.  Thank you for adding the worthy name of Mikhail Baryshnikov to this date.

Even more humbling is the naming of Holocaust Day for 27 January.     Last night, I watched Antony Sher's one man performance on BBC 4, based on Primo Levi's year long incarceration at Auschwitz,  and my heart was full of silent tears when I remembered the trauma of seeing the newsreel footage of Belsen concentration camp as a 14 year old schoolboy in 1945.

I am still blessed by the close friendship of two schoolmates from that era; a friend from my 2 year stint of National Service in the early 50s; and three dear colleagues and friends from my early galley years in weekly rep at Harrogate and the Oldham Coliseum - a span of 45 years to 63 years.   A most fortunate man; content and grateful to be rumbled!    Thank you all.  Smiley
