roslyn, Who? Berlioz. Correct What? - it's not the first performance of the Requiem (which was in 1837). It's a cartoon of Berlioz made some years later, I don't think we know which work is, if at all, being represented; it is entitled 'A Concert in 1846' (English translation). I suppose the answer to What? can be the name of the artist...... When? woops I just gave away that answer Why? why did the artist draw this cartoon? and from pim, who choses the Who? as the artist Who? - Andreas Geiger (the image in your message is not complete. The complete engraving is signed with Andr. Geiger in the corner on the right). Correct - it would be a give-away to leave the signature What? A concert conducted by Hector Berlioz. CorrectWhen? 1846. CorrectWhere? The original engraving (in color) is in the Austrian National Library in Vienna. I have Peter Gammond's book (1997) which says San Fernando in Madrid Why? The music of Berlioz was considered "noisy" in the 1840s. Correctexcellent pim, adding the Where? as a bonus John

I have Peter Gammond's book (1997) which says San Fernando in Madrid I also have a book by Gammond and it's full of mistakes. But perhaps I was wrong (I found the information about the engraving in an Italian book).

I also have a book by Gammond and it's full of mistakes. Yes, I think the Gammond book I have involved him 'editing' numerous writers and having about 20 different people sourcing the illustrations, so yes I expect it's full of errors. I'm double-checking the date, in the Gammond book, for another quiz subject John

All correct except the where (and the why ) it was their marriage and I would have guessed it was in Buffalo but it wasn't, according to Bunita Marcus

It's rather small. Could it be Petrouchka?

It's a charming design, anyway. Something of a toy theatre about it.
