Is No. 9 American, hh? Or Scandinavian?
He is American, Martin. I'll be interested to know which Scandinavian composer you thought he might be. Is No.7 Sviatoslav Richter?
Frayed knot. Did he compose?

Back again! Here are two pictures of our mystery man: What do we know already? He's a composer. He's a smoker. He's not from the Netherlands. There's a connection with Stravinsky. His music is being neglected.

I had been wrestling with a misplaced sibelian connectivity, but Jean was of course fuller in the face than Charles Ives, whose familar beard, in absentia, likewise threw me. Can't get no. 7. I think he's English or Dutch, but I don't really know why.

It's not Roger Sessions is it? Can't get no. 7. I think he's English or Dutch, but I don't really know why. Not English or Dutch, though you're right to think Low. No.9 is Charles Ives.
Amazing the difference a beard makes.

It's not Roger Sessions is it? No. Number 7 is Karel Goeyvaerts, by the way.

Thanks Pim! If I've got time this afternoon, I might put up another five.

Did you see the film about Dick Raaijmakers I put up this board some time ago? Unfortunately, it is in Dutch, but there's a lovely picture of Goeyvaerts in it, explaining electronic music to Darius Milhaud! I would love to have a next round of this quiz. After our mystery man is unmasked, I will also put up a few pictures.

I've got another five composers to give you. 11. 12. 13. 14. 15.

Is it Tansman? No. I know number 14: Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck. His portrait used to be on the 25 Guilders banknote: I hate the ECB banknotes!

12 is driving me crazy. I remember seeing the image somewhere else, but can't remember where, or who. The only name I can come up with is Jehan Tabourot but I don't know of any images of him (even under his pen-name of Arbeau).
J. Ockeghem! of course!
