Who is Danielle de Niese?
Well, I guess I can potter around and find out for myself.
No.1 is the great Agnes Baltsa (great, in my eyes, principally for her Lied von der Erde with Tennstedt conducting)

Correct John and Richard.
I met Danielle de Niese briefly after a performance at the Lufthansa Baroque Festival last May. She was the Cleopatra in Glyndebourne's Giulio Cesare for the past two seasons and sang in Ariodante at the Barbican last week.
Agnes Baltsa - what a super voice and quite the actress too. I saw her do Rosina at the ROH and Dalila too.

Who is Danielle de Niese? The main reason why husbands/boyfriends are prepared to be dragged along to Handel operas these days. And she sings gloriously.... Nature isn't fair. That's why we have to be.

3. David Hughes? Is the indecipherable writing on the photo a help or a red herring?
Whoever he turns out to be, I've a feeling he may end up on the 'Separated at Birth' thread alongside Jonathan Aitken.

Both 2 and 3 are photos from very early in their respective careers. Neither are English. 3's career was tragically short. The writing is just part of an autograph I had to edit out for obvious reasons!

Nope. Here are a couple more photos from later in their careers which should at least give the voice-types away. 2. 3.

Bravo John W. It is him. I always saw him in costumes. He came before my time. I knew two other tenors of Sovie time: Kozlovsky and Lemeshev. I can not say I liked either much. Sobinov is good.
