This is Ainola: ... but that blue house does have a Nordic look about it, I think.

Now back to our mystery man: What do we know already? His name isn't Craft, Wilkinson, Wallace, Ireland, Aplvor, Joseph or Macmillan. He's not a composer or a musician. He had the same name as a British Conservative politician who was Member of Parliament somewhere in the 1970s. He received a very important prize for his work. New clue: He shared this prize with Walton.

Pim,
Is it Ron Goodwin? They both wrote a score for Battle of Britain, I guess both won a prize?

No, it isn't Ron Goodwin. I like his music for Where Eagles Dare. (that isn't a clue)

Are we talking about Sir William Walton, composer??? The only "prizes" I can find references for are his Knighthood and the OM...

Sir John Cockroft ? Doesn't really look like him - tory politician ? Hmm
Excellent! Now I don't have to give the clue about Cockroft's Folly (Joseph Conrad, Hans Werner Henze's Tristan, etcetera...).

Oh bugler, bugler, bugler. I looked up Sir John Cockcroft but it didn't look like him at all. Hair quite different and no specs - but maybe he had just come out of a wind-tunnel. John Cockcroft MP? You have an astonishing knowledge of obscure British Conservative MPs of the 1970s Pim I've never heard of him. And the OM a 'prize'?* But congratulations autoharp! And what a relief that one is solved. [* Oh I seeeeeeee! Not that 'prize'. Not that Walton......Gordon Bennett! ]
