It must be the least satisfying job in cricket, being an England bowler. You get a pitch that suits you, an opposition that doesn't like it, you run them through for fewer than 150 with 12 overs to spare, pretty much everything goes right, and yet you know that the other half of the team is still going to make a hash of it. In contrast it must be a joy bowling for Australia. Imagine the same situation: you bowl well, and you can be certain that between them Hayden and Gilchrist will smack those runs off in about 20 overs. Thanks to a strong bowling performance H and G get a couple more 50s to their name, the whole team feels fantastic and, most crucially, the two halves of the unit have worked in compliment.

I'll be amazed if there's not a lot of simmering resentment amongst the likes of Anderson and Mahmood towards our considerably more acclaimed batting line up. Panesar - who must be the most improved cricketer in the team over the last year - and is still mocked for his fielding every time he goes out to play, must have even more cause for resentment, but luckily he doesn't seem the kind of guy to hold a grudge.

it's not fair, but you're right.
as a team, you're only as good as your bowlers.
but poor pietersen - 104 against australia, and he's still on the losing side.
i bet he wishes he hadn't defected.
talking of which, i bet the Boks are quaking in their boots...

it's currently 116 for 1, and i'm wondering how England can play in the knowledge of certain defeat.
it must take tremendous mental composure.
in other news, bring back Gower.
his cover drive got England out of more than a few scrapes, i tell thee.

Well, I guess if you are going to be bad there may be some virtue in being spectacularly bad, in that it may lead to some drastic action that is much needed re. coach and captain.

And to think I left work early to rush home to watch England being so spectacularly bad!

But I agree, it might lead to some changes at the top...

that said, SA are a cocky bunch of blighters, and if they can beat Austrailia in the Final (thay won't) thay'll deserve the cup.

I suspect, after Sri Lanka's interesting approach to their match yesterday, that SA will end up meeting Oz in the semi-final.
