A suitable end to a shambolic tournament sadly.

Its a shame it ended in an anti climax but the aussies seem so far ahead at the moment its no contest - think some of the england players need some cricketing counselling - players like Vaughan and Flintoff have shown they have world class form but at the moment its buried away somewhere in their psyche  Roll Eyes

This is the way the world cup ends
This is the way the world cup ends
This is the way the world cup ends Not with a bang but a whimper.

highlights anyone?
it's so shocking that out of over a month of non-stop cricket there aren't many, but Malingas 4fer had me on the edge of my sofa.

Highlights - few and far between, but I'd say:

Ireland beating two test nations and getting an ICC ranking thingy in the process
Bangladesh v India
England v Sri Lanka
Shane Bond, amidst increasingly hysterical hype, beginning his spell against, I think, Sri Lanka with a slow ball.

A funny old tournament, in which all but three (Oz, SL and NZ performed pretty much as expected) of the traditionally big teams were brought low: definitely one for the 'minnows'. England, South Africa, Pakistan and West Indies all appear to have deep problems that won't be easily overcome; perhaps the net result might be a genuinely competitive cup in four years' time?

Ireland v Zimbabwe, a tie has to be exciting whatever the standard of cricket. And the significance the result was to achieve re. Pakistan wasn't known at the time.
