Member Now wonders too. Please do poke him if you have any ideas.

Oh, and please let him know what they are as well (your ideas, that is).

tinners, I hadn`t heard of Pangolins until today, but they also known as the Scaley Anteater. I feel shamefaced now that I have realised that little fellow wasn`t sleeping, he was alarmed! See below.

Pangolins

Pangolins have small conical heads, reduced or absent outer ears, elongate bodies tapering to a stout tail. They are easily recognised by the coats of overlapping scales which protect their heads, bodies and the outer surfaces of their limbs and tails. They curl up in a ball when alarmed to protect their scale-less, hairy undersides. The name pangolin means ‘one who rolls up’ in Malay.

I could look it up, I suppose, but I thought that when i read Mort's message and didn't, so I'm not about to now just because I've read George's message.

What, we wonder, does Member Now have in mind by this lowercase 'i'?  Wink

Umm, time is short?  That wouldn`t be true though!  Grin Grin

Scaly Anteaters should not, of course, be confused with the Spiny Anteater, also known as the Echidna.  The Echidna, like the Platypus, is an egg laying Mammal.  It doesn't look quite so attractive as a Pangolin.  More of a Scots Thistle crossed with a rat, rather than a pine-cone lizard.

Rumour has it that Tommo has decided to no longer wear his pangolin cowboy boots, so perhaps we should show a little mercy towards him  Cheesy Cheesy

The Benin Bronzes in the African Gallery at the British Museum (which I believe the Nigerian government think should be returned to them - at least Lord Elgin paid good money to the Sultan for the Elgin Marbles - the Benin Bronzes - (brass actually) - were shamelessly filched during a British murderous raid on Benin City) include a couple of casts of warriors dressed in Pangolin skin.
