Just thought I would share an 'episode ' with you.... Whilst in the car this morning we put on R3 and there was a piece of early music playing. My husband said, 'That's a canzona by Gabrieli.. I think Giovanni'. I replied, 'You are the expert' To which he replied in all seriousness 'Oh no I am not, I have not done any research in Venetian chori spezzati' A show-off writes: If he'd said cori spezzati he'd be even more of a show-off! (Sorry!)

The city is a process which always veers away from the form envisaged and desired, ... whose revenge upon its architects and planners undoes every dream of mastery. It is [also] one of the sites where Dasein is assigned the impossible task of putting right what can never be put right. - Rob Lapsley

I love weddings. Did I miss a wedding? Then I will have to go to the thread about difficult social situations.
Please tell me if I missed a wedding of an expert of Baroque music (Bach) to a person who plays violin?

You missed it indeed, t-p! Go and look on the happy room thread for all the gushy details of the honeymoon.

If one can't gush about one's honeymoon, when can one? (or better still, two).

Stopped gushing now.. sorry !! How about this for a shopping expedition.. We went to the local town today - to Clarks for some shoes for himself. We found a lovely shoe on the rack , a good reduction and a strong shoe. He asked to try the other one and after about 5 minutes the assistant came back and said without an apology or any embarrassment at all ' We only have the one shoe, there isn't another' So he hopped off down the road merrily A

several-pixel-high fonts not small enough for you? How about sub-pixel fonts, for 33% smaller, squinty goodness ? (will only display as text on LCD screens)

I miss him too. Although I've never met him, we do have a mutual acquaintance.

[Moderator Voice]
Guys, we need to remember that people here come and go of their own free will, and that although this is normally a relaxed and happy place, there have been occasions (quite recently as you may recall) where a squabbling few, intent on pursuing their own agenda with no consideration for the sensibilities of board members as a whole, have soured the atmosphere for the rest of us. I am aware of at least three members who have absented themselves as a direct result of this behaviour, and indeed once almost did the same myself, many moons ago. It's totally up to them when (or whether) they return: no amount of badgering from any of us will make any difference at all.
I would like to hope that certain members will take note of this and bear it in mind before launching out on their next quixotic crusade....
