Mort, daunting though it sounds, your friend's suggestion is perfectly ok (and it only hurts for a moment). Boil the needle in water for a couple of minutes to be sure of preventing infection. Then it'll be 'Ahhhhhhh...' - relief! Cool
And after boiling, do not place the needle on your kitchen counter for a moment while you run outside to gather your courage.

Mort, you have people on at least two continents waiting in suspense to hear about your boil!

(This place is weird. I love it.)

I really don't want to know about Member's appendages on their legs whilst I may be annointing a half leg of Welsh lamb with the finest garlic money could buy.

Imagine what Mrs. Ogmore-Pritchard would say!!  "And you can take that leg into the garden and not come back until it is in a fit state for man and beast"

Mort, hope that works.
But if the infection starts so spread up your leg (as my red ant bites did) go to A&E (if outside GP surgery hours) - I had to wait from 1am till 5am (Aaargh! And I went into work next day mad fool that I am!) but was eventually given antibiotics which stopped it getting any worse. The red swelling had gone from my toes to half-way up my leg. Never underestimate the ferocity of a red ant!

Right, the deed is done. I really couldn't face the thread bit though Shocked so I opted for just the needle <wuss emoticon>

MJ, I have antibiotics here for just such a situation. I've been there too many times before. Pesky critters.

Did it work? Do you feel better?

We used to sterilise needles for removing splinters by holding them in a match flame. I didn't mention it in case it wasn't safe, though I never suffered any ill effects.
