Ooh parties.  Yeah.  Most of my parties (I haven't given any for a while) I ended up effectively taking the day off to prepare for.

Are people organized and know what they are going to do?

Are you ready before your guests arrive?

Faced with his only weakness, battenberg cake and a cup of tea, what was hh to do?
His two weaknesses! Battenberg cake, a cup of tea and r3ok, THREE weaknesses...

Actually that's a little worrying. What if my HoD reads this and confronts me at our meeting tomorrow with battenberg cake? How can spreadsheetpower combat pink and yellow sponge let alone marzipan?

I'm sure that this is just me being alarmist, but I think I'm buying a carbon monoxide detector for my flat tomorrow. Just in case it explains my recent lethargy and headaches... I'm sure this is just me being alarmist.

Shocked It's not alarmist at all!  Do it if you think there's even a remote possibility.  You've had a lot of headaches lately.

Evening all,

I bought a Carbon Monoxide detector fairly recently under exactly those circumstances hh.  Thankfully it wasn't that, it was just me being generally run-down, but you can never be too careful, it's a good investment.  Smiley

Yes, it is Rubes, me and the mrs detected that in our home before last. We had the appropriate people out and we  then had to pay for a person to come and fix the problem. Hope they are not too expensive.

Carbon Monoxide detector bought. Not too expensive (well it was about the same price as two drinks for two of us last night and when we're talking peace of mind, I don't think I'm going to quibble) and it hasn't gone off yet.
I am feeling better today so maybe it was enough just to resolve to do something (buy the detector) about it.
Will make an appointment with the doctor anyway just to check that it's not anything else.

What brand of detector did you buy, hh? There seem to be a lot of different ones.

It was the only one they had on the shelf at Woolworths (yes I was lazy and went to the nearest shop). It's from Ei Electronics (the model is Ei 204EN which is their standard model (so it has no memory [whatever that means] but I can change the batteries). It has a 2 year warranty.

Thank you, hh. I was wondering whether to get one, as the gas appliances in my house are rather old.

I probably could have demanded that my landlord install one (surely this should be as standard as a fire alarm?) but I wanted to know now.
I've put it next to the boiler for the time being but I'll move it to each room in turn for a period.
