thank you bbm but in fact I had my welcome on joining a few months ago.  But have been lurking rather than posting since then.

(thanks for the inspirational clip TF!)

Going back to Mary's comment about Evan Davies.... I just adore him ! I dont listen to "Today" as I find it too argumentative & het-up for morning times.

When he was in his old job I used to come over all maternal whenever he came on screen, he was just how I would have liked my son to be (if I'd had one). Aaaaah! Bright, witty, adorable.

Did you know his nickname at the Beeb is "Tinsel T:ts" ?   Due to all the body piercings he has apparently.

Attaboy!

Really Jan? Hmmmm!!! Smiley

I had band pratice last night. My MD certainly missed me! My comments about the technical sides of the pieces we were playing. One of them, Dance of the Tumblers, (R-K). There is, on the EEb Bass(no error with the EEb!), we have an ostinato figure section, quite quickly, first beat loud then second beat soft. The MD was commenting about it. I said where the dynamic was situated, and he agreed! My colleague looked rather dunno, he smiled in defeat or something. That's what my MD missed about me!! Grin I only was missing from band for 4 weeks!

I feel sorry for Robert Peston. He is so tense and nervy - I just want him to calm down. He looks very young and vulnerable to me, and brings out my maternal instinct. I don't think I've met anyone else who can stand him, so I feel even more sorry for him. I do miss that nice Evan Davis with the sticky-out ears, though. I think he's on the Today programme now - which I don't listen to, in order to shock my sister-in-law, who thinks it's as necessary as breathing.

Robert Peston isn't that young - he's a university contemporary of mine, as is Evan Davis, which puts them both towards the back end of their fifth decade.  Sad

50 is the new 30.  60 is the new 40.  70 is the new 50.

Allegedly.

He looks younger than that to me, and in any case he's still quite a bit younger than I am. I think it's the wide dark eyes that get to me.

It never occurred to me to wonder how old Evan Davis is. He seems ageless, like some sort of elf Grin. (And yes to whoever mentioned his nickname - I did know Grin)

I haven't seen Robert Peston in action, except for a few online clips, but his blog seems to be a very good guide to the current economic shambles. It doesn't make for cheerful reading though.

Quite agree Jan - I can't listen to it either.  They'll just argue with anyone about anything - you don't need that when you've just woken up.  Smiley

I love the Today programme.  I cannot stand music in the mornings so R3 is a no-go area, but I always go to bed with TTN

Hurrah!  No longer at 6.30am will I stumble and fumble in the sloe black, crow black, pitch black, with houses as blind as moles velvet snouted in the dingle etc., etc.,  Grin  Grin

I hate all this messing with clocks - but then I don't have to go out first thing in the morning. All it means to me is that when I wake at my usual but very annoying time of between five and six, it will be between four and five, which is much too early. And there are too many clocks, timers and whatnot that have to be changed. It's a nuisance.

(This should be in the Grumpy Room.)

I agree Mary.  So many clocks, so little time... Grin

I wish they'd stop doing it altogether.  All that messing about for the sake of one hour.  Ok the children will go to school when it's lighter but they'll probably be coming home in the dark later on when it's dark at 4 o'clock.  I just don't see the point myself.

Fortunately for me and mrsBBM, two of our clocks do that for us, our bedroom alarm clock and the kitchen clock.
