I spotted this in the cafeteria of a local community centre: Unattended children will be fed chocolate cake and sugary drinks And this in the window of an empty unit at the precinct: Temporary sign

I imagine unattended children will be flocking there in droves.

There's a sort of rucksack, camping, walking, rugged stuff shop here which has a sign:
"Europe's most carefully selected outdoor range'.
The trouble with a promise like that is that it raises more questions than it answers. Why the (lawyer inspired?) restriction to Europe? Did they discover that there was an outdoor shop somewhere in Asia where the fastidiousness of the selectors was even more scrupulous? If so, why not aspire to match it rather than just carrying on recklessly with carefree European standards of discrimination?

I still have a photocopy from an IBM manual that declares "This page is intentionally left blank."

I still have a photocopy from an IBM manual that declares "This page is intentionally left blank." Kitty, That is quite common in manuals/publications that are updated regularly, particularly with legislatibve updates, they leave gaps for future updates without having to renumber subsequent sections, and also like to start a new chapter with a right hand page (as in an open book). The editors don't always get it right though and one publication I subscribed to quickly filled gaps with updates but still refused to renumber the whole thing and started adding page 28b, 28c, 28d etc. I do apologise that the tone of this message is not in the usual fun/waffle mood but that was the Quality Assurance person in me (that was me in a previous employed life). I still have a photocopy from an IBM manual that declares "This page is intentionally left blank." Our old grade music books (Riam) always had a few "[blank page]" pages. Get nostalgic just thinking about it.

"Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred Whiskas."
It's what they don't tell you that gets me. The message above has a slightly different meaning to that intended if you went on to find out that, of 1000 owners surveyed, only 10 owners expressed a preference and 990 couldn't see the point in choosing what muck to give kitty.
[not saying that's what actually happened, mind you.....]

If they word it like that, it's actually quite likely I'd say...

I still have a photocopy from an IBM manual that declares "This page is intentionally left blank." I used to wonder why so many right-facing pages were marked thus and even whether instances of this ever appeared in printouts of UK Conservative party manifestos (I wrote "wonder - not "care"), but then such anomalous obsequiosities are among the many beauties of the English language and its use, innit... Best, Alistair

Not exactly too funny/whatever, but I made note of the following text on a sign/notice thing when I was doing the whole Egypt thing last summer, visiting the Aswan high dam (which was quite impressive) "The high dam project is considered the Egyptian challenge against silent nature". Something that always troubles me; it's not the biggest thing in the world, but it's the toilets downstairs...there are a couple dotted about, but they come with these out of order notices that say Out of order
Thank you I, for one am not in any way consoled by their thanks; indeed, I am quite perturbed by it.

I still have a photocopy from an IBM manual that declares "This page is intentionally left blank." I've written software manuals that say "This page intentionally left blank"

Was there really a notice once that said:
DO NOT THROW STONES AT THIS NOTICE
or is it just an urban myth?
