I probably shouldn't admit this, but I nearly gave my boss a heart attack once when I was on a temp assignment. I took a screenshot of the desktop using [print scrn] then turned it upside down and used it as the desktop.
Ho ho ho Smiley

It's very easy to actually rotate/flip/whatever the screen about on modern computers, because a lot of monitors now actually have rotating components.

Brilliant.   Grin Grin Grin

I know it's childish but our office IT manager takes himself far too seriously. I must try this one.

At every one of these [classical] concerts in England you will find rows of weary people who are there, not because they really like classical music, but because they think they ought to like it. (Shaw, Don Juan in Hell)

Here's my PC desktop with one or two...ahem...sensitive items removed Cheesy

I use it as a genuine desktop ie a workspace, so it's cluttered with files that I've been using recently, as well as icons for progs which I use a lot and hardware. Once I've finished with a file, I drag it to the "to file" folder (bottom right) where it might stay for some time.

I know people who fill their desktop with icons. How do they find anything? I like to keep my dock well stocked with the things that I use the most, and keep my documents filed away.

In answer to your question hh, I find it much easier to find things if they're right in front of me rather than filed away. In fact it's made me think that I could do with having a few of my more volatile files on the desktop which I currently have in My Documents and access via shortcuts in the Start menu.

Blimey! How on earth can you see the trees for the wood?

This is from my old desk top, which is a dual-boot machine, running both Ubuntu and Kubuntu. Kubuntu allows you to set up multiple desk tops - I've got it set for 4 and this is the 2nd, which is entirely appropriate since the version of Kubuntu I'm running is called Dapper Drake Cheesy

I think you'll find it's an artwork by Marcel Duchamp entitled La mariée mise à nu par ses célibataires, même but generally called the Large Glass. Inky has it rotated by 90 degrees though: the left-hand edge of his desktop is usually the bottom of the picture. (It makes much more sense that way.  Cool )

That's it, indeed.  For some reason, I was unable to find something I liked which naturally comes in widescreen proportions :/

I used to have a double page spread of Tom Phillips' A Humument (worth an image search on Google) for almost exactly that reason.

Great idea, now copied by many.  (He created a new story/ piece of art by covering over most of the words in a book and leaving some.)

An excellent choice. I have a couple of different editions of that book. So does Bryn I'll wager.
