I think this thread is closing down.
Braxton, Braxton, Braxton, free improv, free improv, free improv....
That is narrow, not diverse.

So what you been exploring and enjoying kitty?
Oh for a faster connection and more time! Actually, I'm just waiting until I can afford to clone myself, then I should have time to do twice as much.

I downloaded some of KK's, and others recommendations (and looked at some which were very curious!) but so far I don't think I've listened to a broad enough selection to say which direction my tastes really lie in.

Who's closing it down? You? Look at all the posts, there's maybe 3 or 4 about Braxton, and then some clarifications thereafter. Kitty can close it down when she doesn't want anymore recommendations.

Kitty babe'
forget the jazz
you are in to some very special & detailed stuff as it is
the last thing you need is to get embroiled
in the tangled
weasel-web of jazz
a poisonous rhyzome of nothingness
& misunderstandings . . .
I'd stick with the 15th century if I was you
& if I had  a choice
jazz is the fanfare of terminal capitalism
[/glow][/s]>avoid it\<<innit>

Thanks KK. I love that last line particularly! Real poetry!

I will continue to follow my auditory nose...

yes the butcher and nakamura thing eh?
ti was no fanfare for the termination of capitalism

it was intense to be in that heat
waiting and watching and lisnin to each little thing unfold

nakamura was strangely still and miminal
and quiet
i th ink he sits too close to his own speakers whcih effects teh sound levels
ie he thinks he's louder than he is

iw anted to aks you veronika
what were you furt guys up to?
was there some kind of score/?
what was on that screen in the middle
which you both seemed to return to periodically\/?

i notiece you seemed to have a set of equipment
in between you both which was available to either of you
i liked the moment when you both went to hit that area
and collided with each other's hands instead.

No, there's no score. The setup isn't so very complicated, though of course it's reached its current state as a result of years of tinkering, so it might not seem so obvious to anyone else. We each have a keyboard, and a computer "of our own", and there's the third computer in the middle which can be controlled from either keyboard. What's on the middle screen is just to do with that shared computer: mainly, how much of the sound material in it has been used up. Between us there's a fader box we can both use, which controls some "effects" in the mixer usually. The hand-collision was just a more visible symptom of the collisions that go on in the music all the time. That makes it often quite difficult to tell "who did what" when listening back to recordings. (Not that it's important though.)

thanks veronika
that is usefull
it was a sterling set
very exciting and engaging
i found it

perhaps you'd know this-
or anyone else out there-
i've recently melted my home hi fi amp
by putting no input stuff through it

what does one usually use for such things
it needs to be stereo
and ideally it needs to be fairly portable
maybe i just need a seperate amp
in my flat

any idea the kind of amp
one would need to  handle no input without melting?

When you say 'no input' do you mean that youre routing the output of the amp or mixer back into itself? i think that the best way to prevent meltdown (or speaker implosion) would be use to some kind of compressor/limiter in the chain; that should do it.

Yes, I think all the no-input people use compressor and/or limiters since (as you know!) it's in the nature of this kind of activity that it goes out of control now and again. This seems to be the cheapest useful unit around at the moment, though there are plenty of others with varying degrees of sophistication.

What a compressor/limiter does is monitor an input and when its volume exceeds a certain level, it kicks in and reduces it to a level you've set (aka the threshold). it does have an output volume. it's a bit like the automatic level control you'd find on old cassette recorders. you can get them as pedals (cheep, cheerful etc) but i think a rackmount will give you a bit more control.
