Well then. I think a few drinks, and then a mass visit to the Great Court. No? It really is terrific, one of Foster's best designs (which is saying something). And then back for more drinks.

I'll be there, but I don't have a cagoule. And if I am wearing a jacket, it will probably be green. Hope that doesn't confuse things.

Sadly it is a very near miss for me.... I'll be in London on Monday 7th, just for the day ! (concert 7.30 with Monteverdi Choir etc.)

Oh poo ! just a few days late.

Ha!

I am in the British Library. I only had to talk to five different people in order to see a rare book which unfortunately revealed itself to have been destroyed in a bombing campaign in 1943, back when the book was housed at the British Museum. And yet it's still in the British Library Catalogue.

Ha!

Pretty impressive. I've been using the BL on and off for years and never had that. Then you swan in here with your fancy ways and boom! you've Googlewhacked the library catalogue on your first try!

I hope you're not too disappointed about your book.

Not first try, exactly, but yes, Googlewhacking is an apt analogy.

It's strange that the destroyed book is listed as 'Availability unknown', and provided with a link saying 'Check availability'... it's only after clicking on that link that one reads 'Item has been destroyed' and 'See Reference Inquiries desk if you require further information.' Then the Reference Inquiry aficionado determines from his/her own desk the exact nature of the destruction.

Now where has that Turfan Fragment got to? Do you know what's like waiting for someone you've never seen in the flesh before? If he's reading this - I'm outside WH Smith!

The meet-up was successful - greetings to you all from one I Pace and one Fragmented piece of turf, from a pub in Newington Green!

Ahem, a sloppy wet kiss to our trans-atlantic cousin?  What has happened to the traditonal British Reserve?  Just cos Andy Murray beat that Frenchie fellow it doesn't mean we must let standards drop and adopt Gallic ways does it?  And some pianist fellow standing outside WH Smiths fiddling with a laptop is also not seemly.

Welcome to Britain Turfan Fragment  Kiss

You may still be like that in Wales, darling, but here in Newington Green we have moved on a long way.

I picked up this in Mother Earth, Albion Road when buying my museli recently:

I imagine it was the scruffy pub on the SE Mildmay Park corner, rather than the not-exactly sophisticated would-be wine bar on the NW Albion Road/Green Lanes corner.  Or the Edinburgh Cellars on Newington Green Road?

The Nobody Inn and The Gate respectively (the latter has turned recently into a part-Turkish place). We went to both, actually.

Despite the images evoked of standing outside WHS with a laptop, the message was actually sent via a mobile phone.

Alas, I will not be joining you all tonight. Despite strenuous efforts on my part, involving keeping my activity here to an absolute minimum, I am nowhere near completing my hideously l-o-n-g list of  tasks for today (and I really must do them.

So, enjoy yourselves We await reports and possible photographic evidence ...
