If you don't visit the M&S boards (who does, really?) then this message is for you. I will be in London from 3 to 4 July, and can meet up either evening. July 4th is a conference on Musical Material, and several M&S members will be there. If I find out where folks are meeting thereafter, I will let you know. The conference itself is explained in detail here: http://www.rma.ac.uk/conferences/event.asp?id=124

London is for us unlikely but might there be the possibility of some Fragmentation of German Turf? If so you know where to find us...

Well, immediately after said appearance I will be at the Darmstadt Summer Courses, for all days thereof (5.-20.) except the 8th of July.
My return flight is on 25. July from Hthrw again.

Turfers, I've got July 3rd and 4th in the book, pencilled fairly heavily and with little curly doodles around the entries to lend them the look of things it would be nice to do. It would be cool to do some brews on Independence Day in your enemy's capital, no?

The capital of my enemy is my ... no, I'm not going anywhere with this. Curly doodles sound good to me! As I say, I have no plans for the evening of the 3rd, and on the 4th I'll be visiting this conference linked above, which will [also] be followed by drinks. We can work out the rest by PM.

The July 4th conference that I am visiting will finish its proceedings at 5:30pm, I am in favor of a meetup anytime thereafter, and anywhere near the conference location or not so near as boarders deem suitable. I know London not at all.

Isn't it infuriating how web sites avoid giving physical addresses?
I will be in the West End about that time of day on that date, and would be happy to shake the TF hand and give him a face to a name, if I can find out where in London it is taking place.
This seems to be the ideal opportunity to check whether the entire M & S active membership can fit in a taxi. (UK joke, TF, originally referring to the parliamentary Liberal Party.)

Don - the conference is at the Institute of Musical Research, which is attached to Senate House (on the Russell Square side): http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=529987&y=181892&z=0&sv=WC1E+7HUInstitute of Musical Research School of Advanced Study University of London Senate House Malet Street London WC1E 7HU I already knew where it was, but agree that it's not very helpful to have to click through several pages to find that address.

Well given that the first keynote is being given by one of the illustr(ated)ious professoriat of my former institution (well it'll be firmly my former institution by the beginning of July - graduation is the 27th June!) and its being chaired by one of my current (though not for long!) colleagues and best friends, I think I should probably make the effort to be there. But I'll be seeing you in the stadt of Darm anyway.

Beer in London, then slop in Darmstadt. Who could ask for anything more! See you there and there! Now, where and when are we meeting up on the 4th of July?!?! After 5:30 (though probably not directly after) near what's called Russell Square. Anyone know the area?

From a martle-ish post over at M&S which obviously has escaped Turf-attention... I'm not aware of any great pubs in the immediate vicinity of Senate House, but 7/8 mins walk away is The Plough, Museum Street (the street directly opposite the main entrance to the British Museum), and I go there a lot since friends live around the corner. Decent beers, local feel, not as many tourists as you'd think. http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/43/4397/Plough/Bloomsbury(There's a fairly large outdoors seating area too...)
