The ties that bind

« on: 08:04:26, 06-07-2008 »

Well, the proms be upon us again, very soon. Does anybody have ideas about what Prom they wish to attend? I am out of action till the 26th July, drat, ahd a free holiday offered us down at a rather nice timeshare in Cornwall!! More later!

I think, if we are going to have a meet up, we need to plan soon.

It's a long way off, but I imagine the all-Janacek programme on Friday 15th August may be a popular choice.

I'll be there for that one and I know of two others at least so, together with those who live in the Arena over the summer, that's the beginnings of a R3OK swarm (sorry, just wanted to keep the bee, beekeeping and apiculture ads coming).

I expect there will be an attempt on these boards to rally the troops round for some of the proms then

15/8 certainly seems fairly likely (that's the week I've had to take a few days off work to keep up)

I tend to see about twenty proms each year.  Day queue, standing to the left of the fountain.  Harder to pin down afterwards, could be ICU, the Holland Club or the Nines depending on company.

Agreed that the 15th sounds good, that's one of my definites.

By lucky chance I have to come back to London and will be around for August 15th,  so count me in for that one Smiley  We're going in the arena, I assume? Smiley

Opilec, surely you are going to be joining us for that one?  Smiley

I'll be there on the 15th too - a busy week at the Proms, that one, with tickets for the 11th, 12th (both) and 13th also 'in the bag'.

I'll be at the all-Janacek Prom; in fact, Lord_DHS is singing in it.

We have a weekend prom ticket for the August Bank Holiday Weekend - Friday 29 Sat and Sunday.

The draw for me was the Verdi Requiem.

I realise that I am now due to stand through Tchaikovsky 4 and a Rachmaninov Piano Concerto!  I hope it's not the Brief Encounter one.  I will be murmuring Dame Celia Molestrangler all the way through.  I'm sure I'll enjoy the experience.

Handel's Belshazzar on Saturday 16 August - more my sort of stuff, to be honest.

Imagine I'll be around mos tof that weekend too (though I think there are some family commitments to cope with), I understand that another denizen of these boards is involved in the Belshazzar, so there has already been some talk of going for a drink afterwards.

Yes, please, I think a drink after Belshazzar is an excellent idea!  I'll try to make a quick turnaround afterwards, it may end perilously close to last orders (although the early 6:30 start should help).  Let me know where to find you all.

(It's on Saturday 16 Aug for those without their Proms guides to hand - Mackerras conducts the OAE with Paul Groves (Belshazzar), Rosemary Joshua (Nitocris), Bejun Mehta (Cyrus), Iestyn Davies (Daniel) and Robert Gleadow (Gobrias).)
