According to a new study done in Sweden, there are hot spots of obesity in Britain.  Little pockets of fatties?  Grin  Anyway, they've come up with this :-

Here are the top twenty 'fattest' places in the UK:

1. Shetland 2. Torfaen 3. Blaenau Gwent 4. Neath 5. Caerphilly 6. Rhondda 7. Barnsley 8. Wrexham 9. North Lincolnshire 10. Merthyr Tydfil 11. Denbighshire 12. Doncaster 13. Carmarthenshire 14. Stoke-On-Trent 15. Wolverhampton City 16. Anglesey 17. Blackpool 18. Knowsley 19. Newport 20. Northumberland Care Trust

And here are the top twenty 'slimmest' places:

1. Camden 2. Richmond & Twickenham 3. Wandsworth 4. Kensington & Chelsea 5. Westminster 6. Hammersmith & Fulham 7. Brighton & Hove 8. Surrey 9. Kingston 10. Tower Hamlets 11.Lambeth 12. Bristol 13. Bath & North East Somerset 14. Lothian 15. Buckinghamshire 16. Barnet 17. Islington 18. West Hertfordshire 19. Bromley 20. West Sussex

So now we know where to move to when on a diet.  Tongue

9. North Lincolnshire
That doesn't surprise me at all.  The first thing that struck my other half when he first came to Lincoln was how many people are eating chips in the city centre on Saturdays.  There's an aisle in Morrisons devoted to "Pies. Cheese." which I felt rather summed it up.

I was randomly speculating the other day whether hilly places have slimmer people.  This was while hyperventilating around Bradford centre after a trip to the Media museum and noticing that everyone was thin.

London is an exception to that of course - people in London are thin because they walk so fast and nobody has time to eat.   Wink Cheesy

At a very average size 12, I feel enormous in Kensington and like Kate Moss in parts of Lincoln (that's unfair, we still have some size zero teenagers...)

I was irresistibly reminded of this.

20. Northumberland Care Trust

That's a bit specific isn't it?!
Do you think that it means the whole county or just people in hospitals/doctor's waiting rooms/care homes etc.?

14. Lothian

Which one? All of them?
Presumably this doesn't include Edinburgh during Festival season.
I don't usually say these sort of things but
Little pockets of fatties?
Yes indeed.

They have hills but they don't live on them; all their towns are in valleys.

Up here in the North East we embrace our hills and build streets that run up and down them  Wink

The thing that leaps out of these lists is the relative affluence of the places in the lists.  The slim list contains mostly affluent places (apart from Tower Hamlets and Lambeth, which, being London boroughs with a significant ethnic mix and pockets of substantial affluence, may show a skew in the results); the places in the fat list, notably less so, with a lot of former industrial areas with high unemployment.

And here are the top twenty 'slimmest' places:

... 7. Brighton & Hove

And Ruby!!!! Lincoln!  I'll have you know that little Milly was born there just round the corner from the Cathedral up the steepest hill that ever was.   No fatties round there!

(Having said that erm...I'm a five-footer and size 12 when I should only be an 8-10.  Embarrassed (However, I'm working on it! Albeit half-heartedly  Grin)
