Yes. And if he isn't, I'm ... er ... leaving the country

Me too, t-i-n - at least, he's much better than the alternative. I'm not sure how he would develop as president - is anyone? I would certainly vote for him. I'm far more confused about which way to vote here, because I don't want any of them.

I think he'll make a fine President. Admittedly we're going on slim evidence, but both candidates have had only three meaningful opportunities to demonstrate their Presidential (rather than Senatorial, which is a whole different ball game) mettle: organising and running a campaign, choosing a running mate, responding to the financial crisis. In all three instances McCain has looked short-termist, chaotic and impulsive, Obama the opposite. Obama wins for me.

I was watching the news earlier. We used to live in Cincinatti and Ohio is a crucial state to keep if McCain is to win. Unless things have changed a lot in the last 10 years, Obama will have a fight on his hands. I doubt if he'll win Ohio, unless attitudes have changed greatly since we were there. It could be the decider if things are close.

Things have changed, Milly, but mostly in the last 10 weeks. "Undecideds" are much less likely to trust McCain now than they were back then about the issue that worries them the most -- the economy. They don't want a 'socialist' in there like Barack, but they understand that his plan is less haphazard, impulsive, and misinformed than McCain's. Of course, dyed-in-the-wool Republicans will not vote for Obama no matter what; but I'm talking about the undecided voters, and they're the ones responsible for swinging Ohio one way or the other.

Hmm. Well lap of the gods then I think. I hope Obama wins because McCain and Palin are truly awful.

Anyone planning to stay up all night on November 4th/5th? I'm sure the American contingent will I think I might. We could have an all-night MB party, right here.

I won't be staying up. but I'm riveted by the whole thing, and rather nervous about the result, in case it's not what I want. I think I have a deep-down fear that America will prove conservative in the final analysis, whatever is being predicted. I hope I'm wrong.

I confess I do not follow American politics and know nothing much about the two parties' policies (yes, I know I should but the last few Presidents have been laughing stocks - Oh it's just so complexicated Laura)
My gut reaction is that Obama should win. Historically of course for a black man to be President is a major event. My fear about McCain is that he is an old man and when he keels over six months into office then Palin is in charge, which is very, very, scarey. I wish I did not feel like this, being a Feminist, but I think she is dangerous, and possibly quite stupid. The Saturday Night Live broadcast was toe squirmingly embarrassing.
