I went to a live recording of I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue.  I was very impressed with his professionalism and sharp wit.  He ad-libbed all the time and was always a match for any of the guests.  In my head I thought he was immortal.  I suppose he will be in a way.  Very well-respected and loved.  RIP.  Cry

Very well put, agreed. RIP

Here's his Bad Penny Blues:

Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.

I'm pretty sure Samantha will still be sitting on his right hand wherever he is. She might even get out his old seven incher.

What sticks in my mind is his absolute control in working to the last when he clearly knew he was likely to be in his last days. Just a great guy and I think whenever the real deals pick up the horn or pick up the pen, there'll be Humph, forever understated and a virtual vocalist in his sense of line and indeed timing.
My mental reaction kind of echoed a New Orleans funeral.

I think it was announced at the end that there's another special tribute prog on 11th May - R4 listings for that day not online yet.

Does anyone know at what time the tribute will be broadcast? The programme seems to be unlisted on the Radio 4 website. When I click on the "What's On"-button I see yesterday's programme. Undecided

Maybe I got it wrong Pim - I thought this was announced at the end of one of the previous programmes about Humph but I can't find anything either Sad

Edit: I've just checked my recording and it was definitely announced as May 11th - no sign of it in the R4 listings though.

No, you haven't got it wrong, Andy: I heard the announcement myself and I wrote it down. I'll probably also have it somewhere on a mini disc.

I want to listen to the Humph tribute and I want to listen to it TODAY! Angry

Me too. Been searching but no sign of it. I'm sure it'll be trailed before it's broadcast.
