Mr Dough wishes to announce that he also will now be present at this concert, since he must needs be Down South earlier in the day, and he has managed at last to visit the RAH website just as a pair of returns were posted. Sleeper down the night before, hotel following concert, sleeper up the night after that.

Excellent, Ron! I'll bring the photo with me to aid recognition.

I think we may safely assume that Ron will not be appearing in that guise, GG: apart from anything else, that frock is the property of OdL, and I doubt they'd be able to retrieve it from the stores in time. He is even now searching though boxes and crates in the vain hope of finding something more - shall we say - representative.

If it helps jog any memories, the first half of the VPO/Abbado concert on 9 September 1992 was Haydn Symphony No 93.

I didn't go to that one but did join you, opilec, for the VPO/Boulez one on the following day.

Happy to say that I will also be attending the Abbado Prom on Wednesday!   Looking forward to hopefully meeting people!   Grin

Sadly not likely to make this prom, but might be able to make it dwn to the RAH to say hello to a few of you before (and perhaps have an aperitif?)

When are people arriving there?

Hoping to wangle a flexi afternoon, so should be in the season queue from say 2ish.  I'm sure there will be supplies of aperitifs there - there's normally a bring and share on bottles of wine.

Imperial College has the cheapest beer in the area, and after an initial crackdown they don't seem to be bothering too much about membership now (and it only costs a pound anyway), and there may be enough of us about who are already members for that not to matter (you're allowed 2 guests each).

It might make most sense then to designate a set place to meet up afterwards which is within the environs of the Hall - one of the exit doors, maybe, so that we can at least meet everybody and decide what to do from there... I'm afraid I'm well past the point at which cheap beer per se would be the main reason for selecting a meeting place!

Ron,

It's not just cheap beer.  It's decent cheap beer  Wink

I too will be in the Arena season ticket queue from early afternoon with a bottle of wine.  After the concert I will probably be collecting but once that's done I'll be in the IC bar.

And depending on the weather there's a decent amount of outside space to sit in.  I should have mentioned quality as well as quantity previously, there are usually 3 or 4 guests on, plus a real cider as well as the normal nitro-keg rubbish.  A pint is still around the £2 mark I think, which is somehtig of a rarity for London.  As an alumnus I am somewhat biased however.

You're both assuming that I actually touch the stuff... Wink

I'm actually coming down from coastal Caledonia for a funeral earlier in the afternoon outside London, and can't tell at all when I'll arrive at the RAH. The general idea for those of us coming in from far flung and foreign parts is that we'll congregate from around 6-ish, location t.b.c. If I get in ahead of that, I'll wander down the queue to see if I can find anyone...

'Fraid I'm stuck in Herts, teaching on a course (with a certain Mr Barratt, today), so will miss this opportunity to meet and sup with Ron and the rest of you - more's the pity! Have fun, all of you.  Kiss
