I suppose that assumption was implicitly there, I forget what the choice of whisky is, there is the odd single malt available, and the Union Bar (as opposed to the larger da Vinci's) is quite a nice wood panelled room in the event that the weather is inclement, none of the local pubs i can think of are anything particularly out fo the ordinary in any case.

Actually (shock number one) the Dough is happiest at social gatherings with a glass of decentish red wine; to him the water of life is for more intimate or even solitary occasions...

Absolutely, we'll be going for the "In Village Hall if wet" option today I think - huddling under the hall's awning for shelter.

Hello,

I'm just walking across Hyde Park to come and say "Hello" to you guys.

I should recognise eru, maestro, George and Ollie.  Might just recognise Ron and David U from photos.  But IGI and Ruth?  How Shall I recognise you?

I'll be all in black, btw

I can't make the concert - had to go out to the doctor's this afternoon so I'm still at work now - but I might stop by Imperial College bar on the way home and see if you're all there.

Wish I had someone's mobile number though, to save me a potentially wasted trek up Exhibition Rd ... Undecided

I've just been down there, tinners, and met eru, so there is at least one person to meet!

Queue was down to gloucester Rd, but gallery queue looked OK.

Couldn't see people like Ollie and Ron, but then they have tickets, so I was probably looking in the wrong place....

Doh!

Wish I was there too.

Obviously nobody has turned up because the website still says

"Over 1,000 £5 standing tickets are still available for tonight's concert. Just turn up to the Royal Albert Hall."

on the Proms opening page!

Seriously, though; given that this is clearly aimed at inexperienced people you'd think they'd word it a bit more carefully, wouldn't you?  This is one Prom that might well sell out but, whether or not it does, there won't be 1000 places still up for grabs now!  Or are people visiting the website assumed to be savvy enough to know the information might be untrustworthy?

I haven't made it, I'm afraid - phone call I couldn't really put off delayed me, and by the time I finished the weather was looking offputting to say the least. Undecided  Hi to everyone if Tommo's reading this from his mobile thingy, and sorry to miss you all - hope Abbado was wonderful and that you're all safe and warm in a bar somewhere.

Excellent performance and excellent meet - sorry not to catch up with you Tommo, but I did make the acquaintaince of (variously from this board and The Other Place) french frank, Bryn, oliver sudden, Ron Dough, Il Grande Inquisitor, George Garnett and maestrolover (also in attendance were Lady DoverHyphenSole and David Underdown, who I already knew).

Really wonderful performance I thought.  The last movement had me spellbound.

I ahve the photo which I took in the RAH bar, if no-one objects I shall post it in the phto section of meet-ups under Coffee bar.  I'm attempting to contact the 2 who are not regulars here via email.

Oh, and I have no objection to any photos which show me being similarly posted.
