Thanks, Ron. I knew a fair few of these dates but shall enjoy perusing the concerts over a cup of tea in a while. On first glance, good to see RVW and Messiaen well-represented. Disappointing that another anniversary composer, Rimsky-Korsakov, comes off less well, although there is to be a concert performance of Kashchei the Immortal. I wonder if we'll have an 'historically-informed' last night?!  Tongue

The predicted Noye's Fludde is nowhere to be seen: in fact no Britten at all, nor Tippett come to that. DSCH 10 for at least the third year running. And a St. Francis just for Ollie.

56 might attract a certain young lady from these parts.  64 and 65 seem somewhat attractive.

And if they must yet again have Britannia Waives the Rules (as distinct from ROOLZ in a different colour and much larger point size), they might at least have spelt it correctly!

They could have spelt Elliott Carter correctly, too (as well as presenting a better proportioned amount of his music compared to Messiaen in their respective centenary years).

This premonitory piece is also quite interesting:

Denza, Luigi (b. 1953)

Funiculì, funiculà (arr.Rimsky-Korsakov) Prom 76

'Just'?!?

Oh well, I suppose I'll have to stay at home then. Cry

I'm sure they'll let you in as well, tisnow - it's just that Oz has been the prime promulgator of said piece ever since I've frequented these boards, and I associate it with him first and foremost. There was no intention on my part of excluding or otherwise slighting you in any way, honest Wink (And the RAH would look -and sound - mighty strange with an audience of one.)

There will be a dress rehearsal in the Albert Hall open to the general public on 7 September, t-i-n. I am sure we can go along to that.

The performance for Ollie is the following day at an undisclosed location.

My word they're prompt this year. They said the schedule would be online at 6pm and, at 6:00:23 a text arrived telling me that it was!!! Must resist, must....

Ooh, how exciting. Thank you for that classified information, George! Smiley Smiley Smiley

Ron, you're cruel and you don't deserve anything that may or may not be in the post to you.

That's nearer to the mark than you know, tisnow: not only sundry CDs from the Dog and Croc people, but even a registered packet of dots from a member of this board have failed to arrive, even though notification of their having been posted on various days last week (or even the week before that) has been received. Had I accidentally failed to associate you with an unperformed ballet by Debussy rather than a performed  opera by Messaien, I might have put it down to Khamma, but in this case I think it's merely Kismet. (Which is neither an opera nor a ballet, of course, but merely a musical with themes borrowed-in.)

What the 'proms by composer' list doesn't show is that Haitink and the Chicago SO are playing DSCH4!

On a first proper 'look through', I've copied/pasted concerts I'd be interested in seeing. Normally, I wouldn't highlight that many, but this season, I've picked out 21!! Now, I doubt I'll be able to get to all of those, but it's good there's some appealing concerts there. Plenty of enticing opera (Saint-François, Kashchei the Immortal, Poppea, Il Tabarro), another opportunity to see Martin Fröst performing a contemporary clarinet concerto, Boulez in an all-Janáček concert, John Tomlinson singing Boris excerpts.

I don't know much Messiaen, but would hope to get to at least one concert - the Berlin Turangalîla or the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France's Et exspecto resurrectionem mortuorum. I've not been to a late night Prom before (and it would turn out to be very late by the time I get home), but the Messiaen Quartet for the End of Time and the Rachmaninov Vespers appeal, especially the Rach as it follows a Sinaisky prom I'd also want to see. Some difficult decisions ahead...

I must say I'm most flattered to be associated with Saint-François!

I don't think I can be at that one but there's one in Paris on October 31 that's very tempting. Alas I generally have to choose my concerts according to my performance schedule...

Arena Proms are still a fiver.  Isn't that all that matters?  (Best sound in the house, etc.....)
