I'm involved in a concert today which means I missed the England football for the afternoon rehearsal and I'll miss the England rugby this evening for the concert itself. I don't normally like rugby and I don't understand it much but this one seems more interesting than usual.
I missed the England rugby as well because I was at a concert but I sat down and watched it all when I got home - glad I did before I found out the result. The last 15 minutes was pretty nail-biting though.

One very minor grump.
I wish posters wouldn't refer to something written "above". I have my display set so that the latest post appears at the top of the page so the item is actually "below". "Earlier" would be ideal.
Andy, I had no idea we could do that

Give me snow (and falling over on the ice) any day over a sweltering summer with humungous electricity bills from running the A/C and trying not to go outside unless trekking up to the lake.

No ice to fall over on yet, Kitty - it was raining for 2 days before the snow began today, so it's all turning to slush when it hits the ground. A drop in the temperature would turn it into a skating-rink overnight, though

I had a concert last weekend at The Church of the Good shepehrd in eastbourne, East Sussex. Went very well. The main piece was Brahm's Academic Festival Overture, which went down rather well!! All the other items were of selections (2), Neil diamond selection and Joseph(A.L.Webber) and an assortment of other styles of music, eg jazz numbers, film music etc. We usually do one main item, being of an original BB piece or an arrangement of a classical piece of music.
Everybody enjoyed it and did an encore, a quiet piece of music, Ave Verum Corpus(Mozart). Left everybody happy leaving, so thats the main thing, yes?

Reiner, Some days during winter time are good. And during bad days if one is warm at home it is possible to do more work with better concentration. Ice is really a big problem though. There is some pleasure to be in a warm home when it is cold outside. I hope you are nice and warm inside the house. Remember Russian way of warming up?

Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.

Hi t-p! Actually I do like the "real" days of winter, but they are still to come... today was high winds and freezing sleet, but unfortunately I had to go out to some rehearsals - the option of staying home and "warming up" the traditional way wasn't available I suppose I could try asking the performance "if they respect me" (!), but it's not very useful for the progress of work I hope your weather where you are is more pleasant! Konyaku? A lot of the city centre yesterday was closed and barricaded as Rice & Gates were driven to meetings with "the future Prime-Minister", but at least this added a sparkle of international intrigue to our dull lives

Hi MJ and Reiner, We had such a dull day here, but I don't mind. I was playing Schumann violin sonata this time. After some resistance to learning it I found it is not bad (I don't like the last movement, but I don't know what violin is playing. Reiner's rehearsal sounds like a lot of fun. I am currious what opera is it this time. Is it an old master or is it close to our time. Cheers and potato salad any table could not be without

Ho Reiner! I shall be thinking of you during the next few months. As I sip the Malt upon returning home from a stroll in the mild winter weather forecast by our "experts (haa!) I shall raise the glass to you and hope that you will also be enjoying a "nip" - not the icy sort,, of course. Cheers S'wave

Bloody antivirus software.
It doesn't expire for another 2 weeks and kept flashing up annoying message that says "Renew your subscription" so I did. The PC froze numerous times trying to get the download to work and when it did I got lots of little boxes saying "this application needs to close". So, eventually, get everything installed only to find that I haven't after all and the blody thing still thinks it's not updated as the little alert symbol is still there. Plus it thinks I have switched off the automatic updates and it's messed up my Windows Viruscan settings as well. Should have just let the damned thing expire.
Now I think I will have to reformat the hard drive which I have been avoiding doing for years because it's such a pain in the neck to do.
It needs reprogramming with a huge great axe.

I know it's annoying when you get the flashing messages Jonathan, but you really should resist. You've paid for that 2 weeks and if you renew before it's up you lose that. I managed to hold out right to the bitter end but it was extremely irritating.

Having had multiple problems with Norton which necessitated re-installing Windows more than once , then being told by McAfee that I couldn't renew my subscription but had to buy the latest version of their software , I changed to avast! which I've been very satisfied with - and what's more it's free!
