I have rather tentatively posted at tOP today. We shall see what we shall see.

I'm sorry to say that I don't like Natalie Wheen but that's largely due to her opinions on contemporary music which struck me as ignorant and rather strident.

Thanks hh, I have registered the four family residents here.

Today we received a bumper load of mail from Barclaycard, egg, Mint, Lloyds TSB and a strange one for me from Senior Lifestyle Asia with a letter that started 'Dear Mr John'  Roll Eyes

Also received a letter from our electricity provider which said 'we have noticed that we are sending out bills on dates different from your meter reading dates so all your bills have been estimates..... we will correct this. Your next meter reading date will be 3rd June'.

3rd JUNE!!!!!!!!!

Fine, let them carry on  Undecided

Only problem there John is that you could receive a whacking great bill if they decide they have underestimated. Of course it could work in your favour, but ....  Cynical? Me? Yup.

Mort,

Their estimates are not far out. The last reading was 8 Dec then they sent the bill which showed the reading AND a slightly higher estimate for 19 Dec.

If I get no other bills then the reading in June will generate a bill for about £200 which won't break the bank here

This is not a Grump, more a Oh-God-I-just-know-it's-all-going-to-go-horribly-wrong  fret.  I have been getting increasingly apprehensive about the pending switch from Virgin Media to BT Hardly surprising given   the lack of communication from any company to another one and the general level of ineptness Angry  I am also unhappy that the landline and BB can`t be switched on the same day, thereby leaving me with no internet access for a week. Still, worse things happen. And they jolly well would have if I hadn`t 'phoned BT earlier to check on the delivery of my Home Hub. It wasn`t even on the order! Angry    Everything else was but just not the bit that would make BB work!  Hub now ordered for delivery on Friday. This does not reassure me in the slightest. Fret, mutter, fret.

Morty, if the 'phone landline comes first, you can always use a pay as you go standard dial-up Internet service for a few days, surely? You do have an old modem somewhere, don't you? If not, surely you know somebody who could lend you one?

Been to the dentist today. I have no problems with the dentist at all, just sad that he's found two tiny cavities forming...

Aaaargh. Brother's kids (12 and 9) staying here on account of his wife-soon-not-to-be being absent on some Indian spiritual retreat and he having to work (like I don't!) and it's half term and everything and it's a logistic nightmare and I'm falling behind badly with stuff I have to do and they won't eat more than about six things and fight all the time and I spent £20 quid on pier rides alone today when I should have been giving feedback on student orchestrations and there were tantrums earlier this evening and they'll be here for two more days at least and I'm exhausted.

Thankyou all so VERY much for listening.  Tongue Sad

Very young persons (and some physically slightly older ones wandering about the tube stations yelling and striking attitudes) are imho reverting to a feral state in such cases-beasties, and none too timorous with it. Its easy for me to say ,Martle, but there will be an end to this affliction, and may it come speedily.

Martle, perhaps a new approach to your uncle persona? Over the breakfast table tomorrow? Or even tonight?
I suspect I'd be wanting to beat my head against a wall by now and desperately wanting peace. Dammit!  Kiss Kiss Kiss

But the problem of being a Fun Uncle is that it's quite fun. And no-one wants to disappoint a nephew/niece. I hide for as long as possible (normally lasts about 5 minutes) when they first arrive just because I know that they will monopolise me for the rest of their visit.

Gosh, martle, I sometimes feel I missed out on my avuncular duties and failed to relate to my nieces as children, but in fact I hope now that I can treat them as adults, and not some social appendage to my sister, I might do better.  I am taking my middle niece (and goddaughter, not that I have done anything for her religious formation other than standing sponsor at the font many years ago) to the ENO to see Madam Butterfly later this month.

In the meantime, I feel for you.  I mainly feel, thank God it's not me.
