I can find an 'Ellingtonia' recorded by Jack Hylton in 1933, but no idea if Billy Ternent was involved.

YES!!! Well done IGI.

I have the 78. Billy Ternent was the jazz arranger for Hylton's dance band at that time, though Hylton himself probably worked on the arrangement of 'Ellingtonia' too. This arrangement/recording followed Duke Ellingtion's visit to UK which Hylton also 'arranged'.

All this rain making you feel a bit blue, John?

Ellington – Blue Harlem or Riding on a Blue Note (or many other candidates)
Leroy Anderson – Blue Tango
Ketelbey – Wedgwood Blue
Joby Talbot – Blue Cell
Gershwin – Rhapsody in Blue

Blue it is!

My intention had been to have shades of blue, indigo, navy etc but composers of indigo had also written something blue so it wasn't going to work

Hi Parsifal!

Is there a Don Giovanni link lurking?

Nyman - In Re Don Giovanni
Offenbach – Tales of Hoffmann (Don Giovanni is the opera being performed by Stella at the time)

Not at all.

It was the Menotti, Rossini and Nyman that made me think it might be. But I went off to post on another thread and by the time I got back the supreme IGI had bagged the lot!

Congratulations!
