Can I ask Ollie if a knowledge of Hebrew is necessary in order to get your quartet? Or will French, German and Italian do?

Italian isn't necessary. English is, though.

IGI: I have the Solti and the Boulez but I'm no expert - many recommend Gielen very highly which I've yet to hear... I'm sure Ian will have a recommendation.

Dan, after the shepherdesses the other day, are there shepherds to follow?

Nice try but as I pointed out to Ian it's not a single word, more an association (remember the Periodic Table one). I'll make it a quintet to help:
Nyman RVW Grainger Schoenberg Castelnuovo-Tedesco

Not sure why, but when I see Castelnuovo-Tedesco's name, I think of Shakespeare...any warmer?

Is it an insect related link, Dan (VW The Wasps, Nyman Where the Bee Dances)? Worth pursuing?
Or possibly biblical?

No insects. I'll reorder them, with Schoenberg at the beginning, and add one more:
Schoenberg Castelnuovo-Tedesco Nyman Geoffrey Burgon RVW Grainger

Now, I bet that re-ordering's significant? Schoenberg at the beginning...and in the beginning was...Genesis?
