Excellent, IGI! Your Delius should be the one I'm looking for!  Cheesy

Let's see...

Donizetti – Lucia di Lammermoor
Delius – The Magic Fountain
Verdi - Falstaff
Debussy – Pelléas et Mélisande

Fountains are part of the setting in Donizetti, Delius and Debussy, but the connection with Verdi is through Ford, who takes the name Fontana, usually translated as Brook, when he goes to visit Falstaff.

What can I say?!  Smiley Here's an easier one:

Mussorgsky
Verdi
Mozart
Monteverdi

Now you see, that appears harder, knowing hardly any Monteverdi.

Is it coronations?

Mussorgsky - Boris Godunov
Verdi - Ernani (Carlo's)
Monteverdi - L'incoronazione di Poppea

whereas Mozart's isn't operatic

Mozart - Piano Concerto No.26 'Coronation'

Shocked and well done! But can you mention another Verdi coronation?  Grin

And any other Mozartian 'coronation'?

Filippo and Elisabetta emerge from their coronation in the first scene of Act II (five act version) of Don Carlos.

Mozart - Mass in C major 'Coronation'

I'll learn to make my quartets harder, though I don't think I'll ever learn!

I'm hearing the Decca MEFISTOFELE (Siepi/del Monaco/Tebaldi/Serafin): I never thought so highly of this work (and, of course, GIOCONDA), having mentioned it by chance a few days ago on the GIOCONDA thread, where (by the way) a puzzle is awaiting to be solved! Off to mark final-exam papers WHILE listening to Boito  Tongue

Oh, that's a smashing recording. I particularly like Siepi at the ending - this is one devil who's not going down without a fight! The defiance, the whistling..wow! I recently got the De Fabritiis set now that Decca have reissued it at a reasonable price, but haven't got round to listening to it yet.

Act III of Siegfried awaits, but for the rest of you...

Bax
Ives
Nielsen
Saint-Saëns

The pieces do not share a common word connection, but the link between the pieces are the works of a mystery fifth composer. More composers to be added if needed.  Smiley

The Ives and Saint-Saëns are both songs; the Nielsen requires a little digging.

Musical instruments?

Bax: The Enchanted Fiddle
Saint-Saens: Violons dans le soir, etc
Ives: The Sound of a Distant Horn

Not musical instruments, but the works should lead you to a mystery composer and his works.

Bax
Ives
Nielsen
Saint-Saëns
Smetana
Tchaikovsky

Two operas here, plus some songs and orchestral works...

Mmmm...not really, although you're not a million miles away, funnily enough, although another composer provides a closer link.

The Tchaikovsky is not an opera.
