I fear you could be right, Tony, although The Beatles were involved in something recently to allow their music to be sold on iTunes, which seemed to be a bit of a breakthrough. What I find particularly annoying, in the case of EMI re Callas, or Decca re Pavarotti, is that until very recently when the 50 year copyright loomed ever closer, they refused to issue their complete opera recordings for anything less than full price. Gioconda recording reissued today is, I think, the first time that this recording, which is now 48 years old, has appeared at mid or budget price. If the copyright wasn't about to run out, would this have appeared at its new price today?
