OK, don't know if we've tried a connection back to front, to name the composers, but here goes. As a first attempt at this, it may not be difficult to solve.....

Symphony No 5
Mazurkas
Flute Sonata in D Major
Piano Concerto in C minor
Piano Trio in A minor

IGI,

5 works. There's a connection which leads to names of 5 composers, Prokofiev is not one of them.

So we need to get the five composers first?

How about these?

Tchaikovsky – Piano Trio in A minor
Chopin – Mazurkas
Beethoven – Piano Concerto in C minor
Handel – Flute Sonata in D
No key signature for the symphony? How about Shostakovich – Symphony No.5?

No, you might realise the connection before you get all five, so you first have to look at what options there are for each named work (i.e. which composers wrote a fifth symphony, which composers wrote a Piano Trio in A minor, and a connection will become evident which will assist in identifying the remaining composers)

Well, it's a start!

For the Piano Concerto, could it be Medtner, whose Piano Concertos Nos.1 and 2 are both in C minor?

I wonder if the Mazurkas are by Szymanowski?

Flute Sonata in D - Hummel?

Looking good IGI......

Symphony No 5
Mazurkas - Szymanowski
Flute Sonata in D Major - Hummel
Piano Concerto in C minor - Medtner
Piano Trio in A minor - Tchaikovsky

and the 'connection' should help you get the Symphony without the key signature

What - the works already listed or another set of works by these composers? If the latter, I'm thinking 'fairy tales' -
Szymanowski's Songs of a Fairy-Tale Princess
Medtner's 'Skazki'/ Fairy Tales
Tchaikovsky - The Sleeping Beauty is a fairy tale?

Any good?

Well done IGI!

Bit of a cheesy connection but I was just trying out the 'back-to-front' idea.

I'm going to think of another, not immediately though  Smiley
