I like the mnemonic for the various bottle sizes provided at this site:

http://www.champagnemagic.com/sizes.htm

though the derivation they suggest for the term magnum seems spurious to say the least!  Cheesy

There's a blast from the past!

Surely it was named after this...

Yes, drink rather than food. Opi and pw spotted the connection earlier - they were all champagne bottle sizes!

Try these four for size, then...

Debussy
Sviridov
Holst
Milhaud

Debussy - Printemps

Sviridov - Spring Cantata

Holst  -  Spring

Milhaud  -  Jeux de printemps

Alternatively, they (nearly) all wrote pieces about snow...

Or summer...

Now a dash of Spring sunshine would be most welcome on a morning such as this, George...but, no deal, I'm afraid. Nothing seasonal at all in this connection.

I somehow knew you were going to say that, IGI Cheesy.  But, but, but... it's a jolly good answer even so. I was so proud of it Cry

It was a very good answer, George...I only know the Debussy Printemps and shall give it a spin later this morning in tribute (am listening to the Paul McCreesh Praetorius Christmas disc which an ex-member sent me yesterday).

The Debussy is a piano piece... Wink

Yes, it's lovely - just coming to an end now. I love hearing those familiar tunes such as In dulci jubilo appear with the congregational choir.

Georgy Sviridov was a Soviet composer whose music has received a fair few recordings, especially by Dmitri Hvorostovsky.  Wink

I will add that it's not a common word connection between the pieces, but a linking idea, not a million miles away from the champagne one!

Debussy - Marche ecossaise

Sviridov  -  Burns Songs

Holst  - Seven Scottish Airs

Milhaud  -  (Still working on that one.)

Another valiant attempt, GG, but not the link I'm after. Now I didn't know about Sviridov setting Burns...there's an intriguing thought. It is something from a song cycle you're seeking, however.

The Holst would be the giveaway...
