Some of the things that make up my connection have shrunk recently. The bottom three have stayed their original size, as has the Strauss, but the others all got distinctly smaller.

PLEASE MISS, PLEASE MISS, I know, I know!!!!
It's newspapers. But I'll get back to you in a minute. Am thinking Sculthorpe - Sun (Music); Arne - The Guardian (Outwitted); Elliot Carter - (A) Mirror (on Which to Dwell)...
Edited to say: Britten - (Night) Mail ??Jarre - (The Life and) Times (of Judge Roy Bean)

Strina, in case you were wondering whether your final hint gave too much away, that didn't come into it at all. Once you'd confirmed the Sun Music, I remembered what you'd said earlier about rustling and I had a little inkling I might be on the right track - so I looked up the Arne, which confirmed my suspicions. I did think of asking you whether Mozart might provide a French connection, but I thought if I risked holding out for an answer, George would beat me to it

Ah yes, that well-known Mozart opera Le Monde. Should have thought of that! I think setting these puzzles might be marginally more fun than trying solving them. I'll have a think about my next one. Meanwhile I hope IGI has something up his cardinal red sleeve.

I was miles away from newspapers and would never have got there. I had 'rustling' down as autumn leaves for a long time which didn't do me any good. Brilliant question, Strina!

Strina, in case you were wondering whether your final hint gave too much away, that didn't come into it at all. Once you'd confirmed the Sun Music..... ......and rejected the weather, my mind went straight to newspapers. So maybe it was a giveaway? But I wasn't here to pounce, and given that I sometimes get accused of having an odd brain, maybe not too. All the same, an excellent connection. Tommo

A really clever connection, strina, and well done to Ruth and George there.
Have a go at connecting these four. Other composers sitting on the subs' bench.
