No gold to be found buried here, Tommo. It's not a common word connection (although one word does appear in two of the titles) but it does allude to one particular feature rather than a set of things... I'll add another composer:
Lord Berners Kodály Foerster Shostakovich Alfano

Is the Kodaly "the Sneeze" at the start of Hary Janos?

Oh ye of little faith, Anna! You and Milly have the nasal connection! (I nearly typed picked the nasal connection then! ) Alfano – Cyrano de BergeracShostakovich – The NoseFoerster - Cyrano de BergeracLord Berners - Red Roses and Red Noses was the song I had in mind Kodály - Egy nagyóru bóha (Long-nose) would indeed work, but I did have in mind (as Jonathan identified) the sneeze at the start of Háry JánosWell done all!

Time to give IGI a break. Try these four. A theme linking the titles, not a common word.
Balakirev Maderna Raff MacDowell

Would Shakespeare be the link, martle?
Balakirev – King Lear Maderna – Macbeth (ballet) Raff – Overtures: The Tempest, Macbeth, Othello, Romeo & Juliet (take your pick!) MacDowell - Hamlet and Ophelia

I'd never have got that because I don't know Hary Janos I'm ashamed to say. This will be rectified forthwith! I also wasn't too sure about Cyrano de Bergerac appearing twice. I should really go with my instincts! Still most enjoyable and furthering my education at the same time.

Right. <rolls up sleeves>
This may take a bit longer! There are seven composers here (and none to follow). Clue: The order is important... but this isn't the correct one! Mwahahaha!
Kachaturian Mark-Anthony Turnage Roy Harris Birtwistle Rimsky-Korsakov Nielsen Vaughan Williams

You fiend, martle! I wonder if it could be something linked to numbers, such as: Mark-Anthony Turnage - Three Screaming Popes Nielsen – Symphony No.2 The Four Temperaments Vaughan Williams – Five Variants on Dives and Lazarus but then, (he muses to himself) what's signifcant about stopping at seven? Back to the drawing board... Then again, how about Birtwistle's Yan Tan Tethera (for 1, 2 and 3)?
