Not sure I get the significance of that ordering, IGI - I'm sure it's ingenious, though! Not the connections I had in mind in any case, and no lucky strikes either, I'm afraid...

There is one opera amongst the seven works.

Absolutely no significance at all, martle, just a random guess which proved useless!  Cheesy

Ok, little theory forming here…let's test the water:

Khachaturian – Ode for Joy
Turnage – The Silver Tassie

Well done, IGI!! And that RVW would have done nicely too, Ruth.

The Harris is 'Fruit of Gold'.

Aha, couldn't locate the Roy Harris!

Funnily enough... http://www.for3.org/forums/showthread.php?p=5513&highlight=magpie#post5513 with a rather different septet apart from Birtwistle!

Regular readers of this thread will know that if I can't spot IGI's connections, I at least try to suggest an additional work.

With that in mind, perhaps Jonathan Dove's opera Pinocchio, might have been included in the "nose" works mentioned here recently, or perhaps it would have been too much of a give away. I haven't seen it or heard any of his other work but I've read mixed reviews of it.

That's a great addition, Tony. I've now read a couple of reviews and could well find myself heading to see the production when it goes to Sadler's Wells!

Here's a new quartet for you to consider:

Korngold
Hindemith
Martinů
Prokofiev

So, IGI, can we rule out hawks?   Cheesy

Because I get two of them, but not the others!
