Tubin's ballet Kratt ('The Goblin' apparently)
But Weiner is defeating me somewhat...
Are we talking Leo Weiner here?

(Oh yes, John W's got there before me while I was looking for the Weiner [as it were])

Leo Weiner: music for ballet Prince Csongor and the Goblins

Oh good grief. Is that what Csongor és Tünde translates as?

Well done, pw, John and hh on the goblin connection!  Grin

Dvorak – The Water Goblin
Tubin - Kratt, ballet - The Goblin
Leo Weiner - Prince Csongor and the Goblins
Grieg - Slĺtter (Norwegian Peasant Dances) (17) for piano, Op. 72 No. 14, Wedding March of the Goblins
Fibich – The Water Goblin
Bazzini - La Ronde des Lutins

The Bazzini is a favourite lollipop of Maxim Vengerov, amongst others and a movement of the Weiner ballet featured on one of Solti's last recordings, I recall. I don't know the Fibich, but after his 'Idyll' featured in Mr Grew's competition, I think I should investigate...

I could also have added Siegfried Wagner's Der Kobold (The Goblin)

That's right. I don't have that but I have Solti's last recording on a Decca CD which features another Weiner work Serenade for Small Orchestra something I will spin soon (now that it's just been taken off the shelf, hence my Avatar which should say 'mentioned on IGI's NMC' in this case Cheesy )

The Suite from Tubin's ballet 'Kratt' features on the very recommendable set of his symphonies on BIS. I've just looked out the Solti Chicago disc - titled Hungarian Connections - and will give it a spin soon! (available from Ł1.94 here!)

Do you mean a secondhand cd from their marketplace sellers? Yes, most of the time! There are some real bargains to be had. Caiman (in the States) usually work out the best deal, although you have to wait a few weeks for it to arrive. There are some very good dealers in the UK worth looking out for - direct-offers and market_plus being two of the best: sometimes ridiculously cheap and they deliver quickly. Amazon are very good at 'policing' it too...if your disc doesn't arrive, they'll chase it up for you. It's only happened once in my experience.

IGI, thanks for that. I usually go to my good friends shop in Hove West Sussex, not too far from where I live. He's an absolute belter of a person. We have quite a good rapport and he knows exactly where every single cd in his shop is and he has loads!! If your ever down there IGI, its Fine Records in George Street.

Ah yes, Fine Records in George Street - I've a feeling that its praises were sung on another thread on these boards some time ago, but I for one am happy to give it another plug.  A superb shop, with a great selection of classical and jazz CDs, run by really knowledgeable (and entertaining) enthusiasts.  What a real record shop should be.   Grin

Yes indeed! A very fine shop. I certainly sang their praises, PW, and will do so as long as they continue in business. They don't make 'em like that any more.

PW and Martle, we will have to have a little meet up sometime and go in there and visit our record shop and a pub maybe?

Tosca, IGI.

San Andrea delle Valle Act 1

Pallazo Something Act 2

Castel Sant'Angelo Act 3

How was Rusalka, more to the point.  On the appropriate thread.

I see that you even manage to get a couple of men and a van outside the Palazzo Farnese, if not quite tre sbirri e una carozza ..... Grin

Yes, I saw all three Tosca locations! The Palazzo Farnese is now the French Embassy and is only available for viewing if you have a prior appointment and a very good reason(!), but the Church of Sant'Andrea della Valle was beautiful; the second largest dome in Rome and wonderfully decorated:

Just before we left, golden sunlight flooded in:

Report on Rusalka coming, as will some other pics on the Photographs thread!  Cheesy
